Boateng's injury-riddled season ends with fresh ailment
Berlin - Germany star Jerome Boateng has ended an injury-plagued season by damaging his right hamstring, Bayern Munich confirmed on Sunday.
The centre-back limped off after just 11 minutes following a dash for the ball in Bayern's 4-1 home win over Freiburg during the final league game of the season.
He missed the celebrations as Munich lifted the Bundesliga title for the fifth straight year while having a scan on Saturday evening.
"It's okay - I'll be fit for the start of pre-season training," Boateng told magazine Kicker.
He is one of several stars coach Joachim Low has left out of Germany's squad for next month's Confederations Cup to rest a year before the World Cup in Russia.
This is just the latest set-back Boateng has suffered this season.
He returned from July's Euro 2016, where Germany reached the semi-finals, with a leg injury, then hurt his groin before needing shoulder surgery last December.
The list of injuries meant he played only 13 of Bayern's 34 league games this season - only six over the 90 minutes.
