The BC Lions fired head coach and co-general manager Rick Campbell, the team announced Wednesday
"We thank Rick Campbell for playing a major role in bringing our franchise back to respectability & contention while navigating us through some very tough waters upon his arrival," the club said in a statement on X.
Campbell joined the Lions ahead of the 2020 season that was canceled by COVID-19. He led the team to back-to-back 12-6 records and second-place finishes in the West division in 2022 and 2023. The Lions, who were 9-9 in 2024, did not make a Grey Cup appearance in Campbell's tenure.
Campbell owns an 82-92-2 record as a head coach. He spent 2014-19 with the Ottawa Redblacks, winning the Grey Cup in 2016 after an 8-9-1 regular season.
