Paul Pogba has voiced his gratitude to his Manchester United teammates and manager Jose Mourinho for allowing him to remain on penalty duty.

Pogba had a spot-kick saved by Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart earlier this month but converted with aplomb from 12 yards against Swiss side Young Boys in United's Champions League opener on Wednesday night - his second goal of the game after a fine left-footed strike.

"I didn't have any doubts about taking the penalty," Pogba said after the match, as reported by the Telegraph's James Ducker. "I know I missed that one against Burnley. Joe Hart got me that time but I won't do the same mistake.

"I had the confidence of the players, they let me take it and I should thank them for this, as well as the manager - he let me take it as well."

The relationship between Pogba and Mourinho has reportedly been fraying in recent months, a situation that likely worsened after the France star failed to definitively clarify his future at the club. Mourinho later admitted Pogba's notorious agent Mino Raiola kept him in the dark regarding his plans.

Pogba, of course, ultimately remained at Old Trafford. After the 3-0 win over Young Boys, Mourinho hailed the midfielder for having the courage to atone for his previous penalty miss at a crucial point in the game.

"I like the player to have the courage to take a penalty after one that he missed," stated the Portuguese boss. "I like that. He missed against Burnley. The next penalty the team has, he is there to take it, to make it 2-0 and to kill the game for us."

United have now recovered from back-to-back defeats by winning three consecutive games, and Pogba has four goals in his last six appearances ahead of facing Wolves at Old Trafford this weekend.
