Fernando Alonso has signed a new deal with Aston Martin and will remain with the Silverstone-based outfit.

"I am at my physical best and still hungry. I will give my all as we continue our journey to becoming a world championship-winning team," Alonso said in an announcement, according to The Associated Press.

It's a multi-year agreement that will keep Alonso in green until 2026, according to BBC's Andrew Benson. His contract was set to expire at the end of this season.

"Securing Fernando's long-term future with Aston Martin is fantastic news. We have built a strong working relationship over the last 18 months and we share the same determination to see this project succeed," team principal Mike Krack told Benson.

"We have been in constant dialogue over the last few months and Fernando has been true to his word: when he decided he wanted to continue racing, he talked to us first. Fernando has shown he believes in us, and we believe in him."

Alonso joined Aston Martin on a multi-year deal in 2023 alongside Lance Stroll after his previous team, Alpine, wouldn't commit to him for over a year.

The two-time world champion performed well for Aston Martin in 2023, finishing fourth in the driver standings with 206 points. He's presently tied for seventh with Mercedes' George Russell in this season's driver standings.

The 42-year-old Spaniard was linked to seats at Mercedes and Red Bull in recent weeks after Lewis Hamilton committed to Ferrari for next season. Meanwhile, Sergio Perez's future with Red Bull remains undecided.
