<p>Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow is interested in making a big addition to the rotation this offseason.</p><p>"I don't think we're going to spend a ton of time trying to add a No. 4, a No. 5 starter," Breslow said at the GM meetings Monday, according to <a href="https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2025/11/red-sox-looking-for-front-of-a-rotation-starter-via-trade-or-free-agency.html">MassLive's Christopher Smith</a>.</p><p>The Red Sox employed one of the top starters in baseball last season in <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/12246" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/12246">Garrett Crochet</a>. The left-hander finished the campaign with 255 strikeouts in 205 1/3 innings and is a finalist for the AL Cy Young.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/13634" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/13634">Brayan Bello</a>, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/4272" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/4272">Lucas Giolito</a>, and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/8193" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/8193">Walker Buehler</a> were the only Red Sox pitchers other than Crochet to make at least 12 starts last season. Buehler didn't finish the year with the Red Sox, and Giolito is a free agent after declining his contract option.</p><p>Breslow said he feels good about Boston's starting depth, but believes an upgrade near the top of the rotation is necessary. He said he'll consider free agency and trades.</p><p>"Particularly someone that we feel like can pitch alongside or slot in behind Garrett and start a playoff game for us," Breslow said. </p><p>"Last season, Bello played that role for a majority of the season. Lucas played that role for a majority of the season. Because of the depth that we've built up over the last couple of years, we feel pretty good about just overall starting pitching. Kind of maybe Nos. three-ish through 10-ish."</p><p>The Red Sox were connected to Minnesota Twins right-hander <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/12305" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/12305">Joe Ryan</a> at last season's trade deadline. There are also a number of high-end starters available in free agency such as <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/8415" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/8415">Framber Valdez</a>, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/8145" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/8145">Dylan Cease</a>, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///wbc/players/9813" href="https://thescore.com/wbc/players/9813">Ranger Suárez</a>, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/9842" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/9842">Michael King</a>, and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/9755" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/9755">Zac Gallen</a>.</p>

<p>San Diego Padres right-hander <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/13691" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/13691">Robert Suarez</a> has opted out of his deal with the club to become a free agent.</p><p>The 34-year-old had two years and $16 million remaining on a five-year, $46-million contract he signed with San Diego in 2022.</p><p>Suarez led the National League with 40 saves last season while authoring a 2.97 ERA and striking out 75 in 69 2/3 innings.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The Venezuela native debuted for the Padres in 2022 as a 31-year-old after pitching in Mexico and Japan earlier in his career.</p><p>He's saved 77 games and posted a 3.36 FIP and 9.4 K/9 in 206 big-league games, all with the Padres.</p><p>Suarez becomes one of the top relief arms available this offseason along with fellow closer <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/5384" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/5384">Edwin Díaz</a>, who reportedly opted out of his deal with the New York Mets on Monday.</p>

<p>Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens are among a group of eight players featured on the contemporary baseball era ballot revealed by the National Baseball Hall of Fame on Monday.</p><p>Joining Bonds and Clemens are Carlos Delgado, Jeff Kent, Don Mattingly, Dale Murphy, Gary Sheffield, and Fernando Valenzuela.</p><p>Bonds (66%) and Clemens (65.2%) fell short of Hall of Fall induction during their 10th and final appearances on the BBWAA ballot in 2022.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>A 16-person committee will meet Dec. 7 during baseball's winter meetings to discuss potential election into the Hall of Fame for players included on the ballot. A 75% vote is necessary for election.</p><p>The eight players on the contemporary era ballot were selected by the BBWAA-appointed historical overview committee from a list of eligible candidates who had significant impact on the game of baseball since 1980.</p><p>The results of the contemporary era ballot vote will be announced Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. ET.</p>

<p>The Toronto Blue Jays fell one win short of the franchise's first World Series championship in 32 years and it sounds like pending free agent <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/9615" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/9615">Bo Bichette</a> wants to stay with the club.</p><p>"I've said I want to be here from the beginning," Bichette told reporters when asked if losing Game 7 to the Los Angeles Dodgers made him want to spend his future with the Blue Jays.</p><p>"I wish we could've won it together. Wish we could've shared that moment together. To share the moment with everybody would've been special," Bichette said.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Bichette missed the final month of the campaign and most of the postseason with a knee sprain, but gutted through the injury to post a .922 OPS with eight hits in the World Series, including a three-run home run in Game 7.</p><p>The two-time All-Star enters free agency as the top shortstop available and should have a solid market after a terrific campaign where he finished second in the American League in hits, doubles, and batting average.</p><p>If Bichette does leave the Blue Jays in free agency, the 27-year-old admitted he'll never forget the 2025 club he was a part of. </p><p>"I'll remember this group forever," Bichette said. "I think this group taught me what a team is. I think it was the most valuable lesson of my career. They mean a ton to me."</p><p>MLB free agency will officially open Nov. 6.</p>

Never again."</p><p>Chapman spent seven seasons with the Yankees, appearing in 315 games. He said he "dealt with a lot of disrespect" during his tenure in the Bronx but clarified that he didn't have an issue with his teammates or manager Aaron Boone.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"I put up with a lot of things," he added. "I knew that they just wanted to find a way to get rid of me, but they didn't know how. He also took swings and ran the bases Wednesday. After Toronto's ALCS win, Bichette said he would "be ready" to play in the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.</p><p>"Hitting, continuing to make progress, he's going to do that again today," Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters later Thursday. "He's taking ground balls and running. He's going to do more of the same today.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"He's feeling good, which is nice, but there's still a few more boxes to check."</p><p>The 27-year-old has played every game of his big-league career at shortstop or designated hitter, but he did get into 30 minor-league games as a second baseman between 2016-19.</p><p>"We'll see," Schneider replied when asked if Bichette would play second, short, or serve as DH.</p><p>"We're coming right down to the wire with it. I could see all three of those things happening. Just have to talk to him after the workout today to see how comfortable he felt doing everything and make the best decision."</p><p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/10877" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/10877">Ernie Clement</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/4693" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/4693">Isiah Kiner-Falefa</a> both played second during the ALCS.</p><p>The Blue Jays do not have to announce their World Series roster until Friday before Game 1. </p><p> </p>

<p>The Los Angeles Angels hired former big-league catcher Kurt Suzuki as their next manager, the team announced Tuesday.</p><p>Suzuki has received a one-year contract.</p><figure class="article-segment--embed"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet">

</blockquote> <script async="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></figure><p>Suzuki's deal has multiple options, the team said, according to <a href="https://x.com/RhettBollinger/status/1981125205398601783">Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com</a>.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"I make a joke of it, but I feel like I've been playing on one-year deals my whole career," Suzuki said, according to <a href="https://apnews.com/article/angels-kurt-suzuki-manager-82a997375901b5b0f5bfcd9e9d024170">Greg Beacham of the Associated Press</a>. "I feel like I had to prove myself every single year I played this game. ... I'm here because I want to lead this team. I'm here because I want to help these players. I want to do good for this city and this organization."</p><p>The 42-year-old spent the last three seasons as a special assistant to Angels general manager Perry Minasian after retiring as a player following the 2022 campaign.</p><p>Suzuki will be the fifth Angels manager since Mike Scioscia's final season as skipper in 2018. Suzuki has no previous experience as a manager.</p><p>Ron Washington managed the Angels for parts of the last two seasons but stepped aside during the 2025 campaign to undergo medical treatment for a heart condition. He was replaced on an interim basis by Ray Montgomery.</p><p>The Angels were reportedly connected to former players Albert Pujols and Torii Hunter before they were each ruled out as managerial candidates Monday.</p><p>The Angels finished the 2025 season with a 72-90 record. They have not made the postseason since 2014 despite employing superstars like <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/1674" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/1674">Mike Trout</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/9519" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/9519">Shohei Ohtani</a> in the past decade.</p><p> </p>
