Matuidi on PSG future: 'Only time will tell'

With a contract set to expire in 2018 amid speculation linking him with a move away from the French capital, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi says "only time will tell" if he sticks around beyond the terms of his deal.

The club have offered Matudi, 30, a new deal, though from the sounds of it, the French international is no nearer to putting pen to paper, according to Marc Alvarez from Canal Supporters.

"For the moment, I am very much there," Matuidi said. "Only time will tell. I have a contract until 2018. All I can say is that I am Parisien."

Frustrated that PSG failed to win a fifth Ligue 1 title on the trot, Matuidi admits there is something still to play for ahead of Saturday's Coupe de France final against Angers.

Unai Emery's lot could capture a record 11th Coupe crown in its 100th edition, and for now, that's where Matuidi's focus lies.

"We will try to finish on a high with the Coupe de France," Matuidi said. "On top of that, it is the 100th edition. We know that this will not necessarily save our season, though.

"This season has witnessed great disappointment. We will not have reached the objectives that were set."

A mainstay in Emery's three-man midfield alongside countryman Adrien Rabiot and Italian star Marco Verratti, there's no reason to think the Toulouse-born runner won't extend his stay at PSG. Even so, Matuidi appears discontent with this past season, and that may be enough to force a switch.

"However, in 2017, we have played like champions. Sadly, it has not been enough."
