The Tritons went 18-2 this year and won the Big West Conference tournament to secure an automatic bid.</p><p>"We're thrilled to welcome Eric Olen as the new head coach of Lobo men's basketball," Lovo <a href="https://golobos.com/news/2025/03/30/eric-olen-named-head-coach-of-lobo-mens-basketball/">said</a> in a statement. Perhaps none more so than Saturday's display in the No. 2 Huskies' 82-59 Sweet 16 victory over Oklahoma.</p><p>"Paige was spectacular," Auriemma told reporters, according to <a href="https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/44460248/paige-bueckers-career-best-40-puts-uconn-back-elite-eight">ESPN's Alexa Philippou</a>. "That was as good a game as I've seen her play the whole time she's been here, at the most important time."</p><p>Bueckers scored a career-high 40 points, a UConn tournament record, with 29 of them coming in the second half. The consensus No. 1 pick in the upcoming WNBA draft single-handedly outscored Oklahoma over the final 20 minutes.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The 23-year-old finished the contest with an efficient 16-of-27 mark from the field and received a standing ovation from fans at Spokane Arena when she left the game at the 3:08 mark in the fourth quarter.</p><p>That's not to say Bueckers was perfect. Bueckers went on a tear in the final frame, though, scoring 19 straight points on 8-of-9 shooting during a spell in which the Sooners managed only five points.</p><p>"When it starts happening in a game, in the back of your mind, you go, 'Here it goes,'" Auriemma said about Bueckers' effort. "And you know that unless the other team does something, it's just going to keep piling it on."</p><p>Bueckers now has 74 points in two games on the heels of a 34-point outburst in the second-round win over South Dakota State, her previous career high.</p><p>"Little by little it's dawned on her, I think, that there is no next year," Auriemma said. "There is no 'I can get this anytime I want.' You're going to have to get it now or it won't be available anymore."</p><p>The Huskies will face No. 1 USC in the Elite Eight on Monday. The Trojans are without star JuJu Watkins, who tore her ACL in the second-round victory over Mississippi State.</p><p>"Honestly, we just wanted to keep our season going as long as possible. We all love playing together, we love playing here," Bueckers said. "We just love this program and everything it means."</p>

"It was the first time I've heard him yell in a while," he said. "It was refreshing, to be honest. I loved it."</p><p>The Lakers are 45-29 with eight contests left on the schedule, all against Western Conference opposition. They now hold a half-game lead over fifth-placed Memphis and the tiebreaker after winning the season series.</p>

I've been good for the group all year, and this is on me," Mitchell said.</p><p>"I'm a sicko for this shit, man," Mitchell added. "This tests what you really are mentally, just continuing to push. And I have no doubt, I haven't lost confidence in my abilities. It's going to come, it's going to happen. But until I continue to be who I've been, this is what happens."</p><p>Evan Mobley chipped in with 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Cavs, and according to the fourth-year defensive whiz, Mitchell isn't the only one who deserves blame for their struggles.</p><p>"I feel like we all started slow. We weren't getting rebounds, we weren't necessarily getting stops. Some shots weren't falling for (Mitchell) and some other people as well, but we can't just put everything on him," Mobley said.</p><p>Mitchell and Co. will look to bounce back when they visit the lowly Utah Jazz on Sunday. The six-time All-Star said he's happy to take the criticism for the Cavs if the losing streak continues.</p><p>"There's really nowhere else to look, to be honest with you," Mitchell said. "So I'll be better. I'll figure it the f--- out for everybody."</p>

"Sometimes, you have to do the human thing. And you always talk about all these minutes matter. Those minutes matter for another reason."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"And I figured if we're going to do it, let's do it in style," Finch added.</p><p>The autism spectrum disorder is a neurological and developmental disorder that can alter how people learn, interact, communicate, and behave.</p><p>"As a dad, just really proud that he's worked so hard every day at school and therapy and speech and everything that he has to do to fit in - in a not-very-friendly world a lot of the time," Ingles said <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ihki6nryFnQ">postgame</a>.</p><p>Ingles finished scoreless in six minutes of play, but Finch said the decision to include the Australian in the starting five helped inspire the team to a lopsided win.</p><p>"Guys were behind it, and I think it gave us just the right boost that we needed and a change of energy," Finch said. "It's not often you get to do those types of things, but we're really happy that we could."</p><p>Ingles' wife and their two other children were also in attendance as the veteran made his first start since Jan. 30, 2022. Ingles spoke about the challenges of autism and the importance of raising awareness.</p><p>"The reality of it is I just don't think people understand. It gets kind of confused because of the money and the lifestyle," Ingles said. "It is a little less stressed because I can afford to pay for Jacob to get what he needs.</p><p>"But it doesn't take away the meltdowns in the supermarket. There's been so many times ... that he's laying on the floor in public. You can feel people staring at you. You know they're judging you. You know they're making comments about it. But they have no idea what he's going through that day or the night before or the situation."</p><p>Ingles added, "We'll keep doing what we do. We'll keep pushing the awareness, and we'll do whatever we can to help other families."</p>

However, the Lakers didn't identify that specific injury as a concern, according to <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1888415642371686502">ESPN's Shams Charania</a>.</p><p>The 23-year-old Duke product returned from a four-game absence to face the Lakers on Wednesday. He recorded 10 points, nine rebounds, and two assists in 29 minutes in the Hornets' 100-97 victory. It was his first appearance for the team since the annulled trade.</p><p>Williams claims the failed physical wasn't the only reason the Lakers nixed the deal.</p><p>"I don't think it was solely because of my physical," he said. "I felt like I could have contributed to them. But, obviously, they had second thoughts."</p><p>LeBron James, who dunked on Williams during Wednesday's contest, spoke about facing a player who was set to join the Lakers' ranks.</p><p>"He was never a teammate," James said. "He never stepped into the locker room. He never came [in]. We never seen him. We know the trade went down, but we never seen him. So when it got rescinded, it was just back to what it was before. So, it was no different."</p>

<p>The NBA has an All-Star Game problem.</p><p>Players don't care, and at this point, neither do the fans. The event has become a microcosm of a regular-season marred by increasing disinterest and malaise.</p><p>The All-Star Game can only go as far as the players' desire for competitiveness takes it. And it doesn't appear like this current generation of players feel particularly bothered to compete. (Perhaps we can exclude Victor Wembanyama, who <a href="https://x.com/BenGolliver/status/1891334154371186716">appeared upset</a> when Jayson Tatum was allowed to freely drive to the hoop for the game-winning bucket.)</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>It's time for a solution, and if the NHL's current 4 Nations Face-Off hockey tournament involving the United States, Canada, Sweden, and Finland is any indication, a considerable overhaul might be the only fix.</p><h3>4 Nations has been a smashing success</h3><p>The NHL opted to scrap its 2025 All-Star Game and instead introduce the 4 Nations as a precursor to the league's return to Olympic competition in 2026.</p><p>The United States' 3-1 victory over Canada on Saturday in the fourth game of the round-robin phase had it all: anthem controversy, three fights in the opening nine seconds, and no love lost in a hyper-competitive affair that was enjoyed by hockey fans and casual viewers alike.</p><p>If the NBA were to adopt a similar idea based on its primary demographics, now is the time. Each of the last six MVP awards have gone to players born outside the U.S. (Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, and Nikola Jokic) and Canada's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the current favorite to win this year's honor. Of the 26 players voted as All-Stars or selected as injury replacements for this year's game, eight players were either born outside the U.S. or represent another country in international competition.</p><p>The NBA has never been more international than it currently is, and if the league looks to replace the stagnant All-Star Weekend with a competition with a global flare, it could do worse than copy its NHL counterpart.</p><p>With this in mind, here's a hypothetical look at an international competition that would replace All-Star Weekend.</p><h3>Format</h3><p>Four 12-player teams would compete in a round-robin mini-tournament. The top two teams would advance to the finals after facing the three opponents once.</p><p>Games would consist of two 15-minute halves to allow the competition to be condensed into a two-day window. The three teams comprised of eight All-Stars selections apiece will also compete against the winner of the Rising Stars Challenge. WNBA icon and TNT broadcaster Candace Parker will coach that team.</p><p>The All-Star Game takes place Sunday, Feb. 16 at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California.</p>

<p>Much like the rest of the basketball world, Dallas Mavericks guard <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/6154" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/6154">Kyrie Irving</a> admits he was "shocked" to learn of former teammate <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/68198" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/68198">Luka Doncic</a>'s trade to the Los Angeles Lakers.</p><p>"Just really shocked," Irving told reporters, according to <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/43698759/kyrie-irving-grieving-doncic-trade-miss-my-hermano">ESPN's Tim Bontemps</a> following Tuesday's defeat to the Philadelphia 76ers. "You just don't imagine you're going to get ready to go to sleep and then you find out news like that."</p><p>Irving continued: "It's still a grieving process right now. I miss my hermano."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Irving led the Mavericks with 34 points on 11-of-21 shooting in the 118-116 loss in Philadelphia. Although the defeat was marked by poor late-game execution, Irving's postgame availability centered around the franchise-altering trade.</p><p>"This is a business, it's way above my pay grade, and I've just got to adjust and be ready to welcome in my new teammates with open arms and kind of be ready to go back to Dallas, too, to speak in front of our fans," Irving said. </p><p>He added: "I know they are feeling it, too. I'm feeling it too, guys. So, yeah, it's just an adjustment period. I don't want to downplay this, either, or disrespect our new guys. They're going to help us win and help us build toward a championship, but just like everyone else at home, when you kind of see it from afar, it hurts."</p><p>The Mavericks acquired 10-time All-Star <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/11373" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/11373">Anthony Davis</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/102775" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/102775">Max Christie</a> in the trade. Only Christie was able to make his debut Tuesday after Davis was ruled out due to an abdominal injury. Christie recorded 15 points and nine rebounds in 32 minutes off the bench.</p><p>"This is a weird case in NBA history to be a part of," Irving said. </p><p>"But at the same time, we still have to acknowledge our little Slovenian president is no longer here, and we've got to adjust."</p>

<p>The Phoenix Suns have been recently willing to listen to trade proposals for <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/345" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/345">Kevin Durant</a> as the Feb. 6 deadline approaches, sources told <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/43695761/suns-downgrade-kevin-durant-doubtful-thunder-matchup">ESPN's Tim McMahon</a>.</p><p>The Golden State Warriors are among the teams that have expressed an interest in Durant, sources told ESPN's Brian Windhorst.</p><p>Durant, 36, spent three seasons with the Warriors before signing with the Brooklyn Nets in July 2019.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Golden State's interest is consistent with <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3208793" href="https://thescore.com/news/3208793">reports</a> indicating the organization is looking to add a second All-Star-caliber talent to play alongside <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/148" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/148">Steph Curry</a>. The Suns have also been linked with Butler. Durant's departure from Phoenix could help facilitate a move for the disgruntled Miami Heat star.</p><p>Suns guard Bradley Beal could also be involved in a potential deal for Butler. However, Beal's agent, Mark Bartelstein - father of Suns CEO Josh Bartelstein - <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3197861" href="https://thescore.com/news/3197861">says</a> Beal has no desire to waive his no-trade clause.</p><p>Durant was acquired by Phoenix from the Nets at the 2023 deadline in a blockbuster move that marked the start of Mat Ishbia's tenure as Suns owner. Ishbia has previously publicly stated that he has no interest in trading Durant.</p><p>Durant was downgraded to doubtful due to a left ankle sprain for Wednesday's visit to another former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder. He's 26 points shy of becoming the eighth player in NBA history to reach 30,000 career points.</p>

<p>The Dallas Mavericks addressed reports that they've offered refunds to season-ticket holders following Luka Doncic's trade to the Los Angeles Lakers, <a href="https://www.kens5.com/article/sports/nba/dallas-mavericks-season-ticket-refunds/287-c2fb2431-30c2-4e82-b779-776eddf1472d">according</a> to WFAA Dallas.</p><p>Reports surfaced Tuesday <a href="https://lastwordonsports.com/basketball/2025/02/04/mavs-fans-season-tickets/">suggesting</a> that the organization had offered refunds for season-ticket holders looking to cancel their seats for the remainder of the season. The social media post claiming that refunds have been offered has since been deleted.</p><p>"Regarding refunds, we value every season-ticket-member relationship, and reps are available to take calls from members with any concerns or questions," the Mavericks said in an email obtained by WFAA.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The statement added: "Regarding tickets, no determination has been made about season-ticket pricing for the 2025-26 season. Season-ticket members will hear from their reps over the next few weeks."</p><p>One season-ticket holder did receive a refund, per emails obtained by WFAA between the fan and a team representative.</p><p>"If we go ahead and cancel the season membership, we will cancel all remaining home games for the remainder of the season, starting with the 2/8 game vs. Houston," the email from the team representative read.</p><p>The email also states that a refund check will be mailed to the season-ticket holder, according to WFAA.</p><p>The Mavericks had the <a href="https://www.sportskeeda.com/basketball/ranking-average-nba-ticket-prices-teams-2023-24-least-expensive">11th-highest</a> average season-ticket price ($249) in the NBA last season.</p><p>Several fans gathered outside the American Airlines Center on Feb. 2 to <a href="https://x.com/jake_riepma/status/1886137541436297571">protest</a> Doncic's shocking trade to the Lakers. Cries of "Sell the team" could be heard, while other fans held signs demanding that general manager Nico Harrison be fired. There were also many tributes left outside the arena thanking Doncic for his celebrated tenure with the team.</p><p>Doncic led Dallas to the 2024 NBA Finals and was selected to the All-Star Game and All-NBA first team on five occasions during his six-and-a-half seasons with the Mavs. He also won Rookie of the Year in 2019 and led the league in scoring last season.</p>
