Ramos likely to catch Syndergaard's next start amid drama
It doesn't appear Noah Syndergaard is going to get his way.
New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway said it's likely that Wilson Ramos will be behind the plate for the right-hander's next start Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to The Associated Press.
"That's something that's a likely possibility," Callaway said. "I wouldn't just go ahead and print that he's catching that day, because anything can happen. But Noah obviously understands at this point that whoever is in the lineup, he's going to go ahead and compete."
Callaway's comments come two days after it was reported that Syndergaard voiced his displeasure with Mets' brass about throwing to Ramos. The 27-year-old's ERA is significantly lower pitching to New York's other catchers, Tomas Nido and Rene Rivera.
Ramos leads the National League with a .402 batting average since Aug. 1, however, and Callaway explained Monday that he's going to "put the best players on the field at all times."
Syndergaard downplayed the drama Tuesday, saying he had "nothing but respect" for Ramos.
The Mets currently sit 2 1/2 games back of the Chicago Cubs for the second wild-card spot in the NL.
