Rich Hill's return from the injured list didn't last an inning.

The Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander was forced to exit Thursday's game against the Baltimore Orioles in the first frame with a strained MCL in his left knee, according to Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times.

''It was an MCL strain, something that he dealt with initially early in spring training,'' manager Dave Roberts said, according to The Associated Press. ''He missed some time with that. We hadn't had any signs of that leading up to this outing.''

After striking out the first two Orioles he faced, Hill walked two batters and hit two others before being replaced by Adam Kolarek.

''After the last curveball on the second hitter there, I felt my knee and then I stupidly tried to pitch through it,'' Hill explained.

Hill was making his 11th start of the season and first since June 19. The veteran southpaw had been on the 60-day IL with a forearm strain.

In 10 starts before Thursday, Hill owned a sparkling 2.55 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 53 innings.
