Judge reflects on season after falling short of World Series: 'It's a failure'
The New York Yankees' season came to an end Saturday after losing Game 6 of the American League Championship Series to the Houston Astros in dramatic walk-off fashion thanks to a Jose Altuve home run.
On paper, 2019 looked like a success for the Bronx Bombers. The team won an American League East title and were victorious in 100 or more games for a second straight campaign. But after falling short of the World Series again, Aaron Judge didn't mince words when asked about this past campaign.
"It's a failure," he said following the loss.
The Yankees played through a tumultuous season in which most of the starting roster hit the injured list, forcing them to rely on depth.
Judge, who missed two months with a strained oblique, believes all of the resiliency the team showed was overshadowed by Saturday's loss.
"In spring training, we talked about winning the division, putting ourselves in a good spot to win a World Series and we came up short. No matter how many games you won in the regular season or what else we did, the season's a failure," the outfielder added.
The Yankees have not won an AL pennant since 2009, making the 2010s the first decade since the 1910s in which they haven't reached the World Series.
