Report: Reds among teams interested in Kendrick

Howie Kendrick's strong postseason performance for the World Series champion Washington Nationals has put him on the free-agent map.

The Cincinnati Reds have joined a growing list of teams interested in the 36-year-old NLCS MVP, reports The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

News of Cincinnati's interest comes four days after The Athletic's Brittany Ghiroli reported the Tampa Bay Rays and Miami Marlins are also eyeing the veteran infielder.

Kendrick had a terrific regular season for the Nationals, hitting .344/.395/.572 with 17 home runs, 23 doubles, and 62 RBIs in 121 games.

He continued to perform well in the playoffs with two home runs, 12 RBIs, and 18 hits overall. He hit a game-winning grand slam in a division-series upset over the Los Angeles Dodgers, then followed his terrific NLDS with four doubles and a 1.012 OPS in the NLCS against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Along with a potent bat and veteran leadership, Kendrick could provide the Reds with positional versatility. He played first, second, and third for the Nationals last season and also has experience in the outfield. He is not linked to any kind of draft-pick compensation.

The Reds figure to be active this offseason as they look to improve their offense. They've already been linked to shortstop Didi Gregorius.
