The Milwaukee Brewers traded outfielder Trent Grisham and right-hander Zach Davies to the San Diego Padres for infielder Luis Urias, left-hander Eric Lauer, and either a player to be named later or cash considerations, the Brewers announced Wednesday.

Grisham was named the most outstanding minor-league player in the Brewers' system for 2019 after posting a 1.010 OPS in 97 contests between Double-A and Triple-A.

The 23-year-old slashed .231/.328/.410 with six home runs and 24 RBIs in 51 games with Milwaukee after getting called up in early August.

Grisham might be best remembered for a crucial error he made in last season's National League wild-card game against the eventual World Series champion Washington Nationals.

Davies, who was the other player acquired from the Brewers, posted a 3.55 ERA in 159 2/3 innings (31 starts) in 2019. The starting pitcher is arbitration-eligible through the 2021 season.

The busy Padres also reportedly agreed to a multi-year deal with left-hander Drew Pomeranz on Wednesday.

Milwaukee, meanwhile, gets a former top prospect in Urias. The 22-year-old was ranked as high as No. 16 on MLB Pipeline's top 100 prospects list in January, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. Urias owns a .649 OPS in 83 career contests and comes to the Brewers with 120 days of MLB service time, meaning the club has six years of control, McCalvy added.

"Look, we did not have good shortstop production last year, and we have been open about that," Brewers general manager David Stearns said when asked about the acquisition of Urias. "For us to ultimately do what we want to do ... production from that position has to improve. Having competition at that position is not a bad thing."

Lauer, who'll join Urias in Milwaukee, accrued a 4.45 ERA over 149 2/3 innings (29 starts) last season. The 24-year-old lefty is still pre-arbitration eligible, so he'll make close to the league minimum in 2020.
