<p>New York Islanders forward <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/1756" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/1756">Kyle Palmieri</a> will undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee, the club announced Saturday.</p><p>Palmieri will be out for six-to-eight months following the procedure.</p><p>The 34-year-old suffered the injury after getting tangled up with Philadelphia Flyers defenseman <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/9207" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/9207">Jamie Drysdale</a> while battling for the puck near the boards Friday. Although New York has also reportedly checked in on top free-agent outfielder <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///wbc/players/8173" href="https://thescore.com/wbc/players/8173">Kyle Tucker</a>, the club appears to prefer Bellinger due to the 30-year-old's versatility and proven success in New York.</p><p>Bellinger slashed .272/.334/.480 with 29 homers, 98 RBIs, and 4.9 fWAR over 152 games this year in his only campaign in the Bronx.</p><p>The Yankees haven't made a big move yet this offseason. It's believed Cardinals ownership would also include cash to help cover the remaining $31 million over two years left on the 34-year-old's contract.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The eight-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove winner vetoed a deal to the Houston Astros last December. However, this time around, he's coming off the worst season of his 13-year career after going deep 12 times with 52 RBIs and a .666 OPS over 107 games.</p><p>St. Louis doesn't plan to trade All-Star second baseman <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/13675" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/13675">Brendan Donovan</a> unless the team gets a great offer, a source told Sammon, Rosenthal, and Woo. However, the 28-year-old is reportedly generating significant interest this offseason, as he's arbitration-eligible for two more years.</p><p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/13786" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/13786">Alec Burleson</a>, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/12739" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/12739">Lars Nootbaar</a>, and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/12469" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/12469">Nolan Gorman</a> are three other left-handed hitters who are rumored to be on the trade block with the Cardinals shifting to a rebuild.</p>

<p>The Los Angeles Angels and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/2908" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/2908">Anthony Rendon</a> are in discussion about buying out the third baseman's final year of his contract, a source told <a href="https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/47110621/source-angels-talks-buy-final-year-anthony-rendon-deal">Alden Gonzalez of ESPN</a>.</p><p>Rendon is owed over $38 million in 2026 after signing a seven-year, $245-million deal in December 2019. He would likely defer part of next year's salary in a potential buyout, according to Gonzalez.</p><p>The 35-year-old is expected to retire when the Angels cut him, a source told Gonzalez.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Rendon spent the entire 2025 season sidelined after undergoing hip surgery in February. He also had a hip procedure in July 2022.</p><p>Rendon hit a combined 22 home runs with 125 RBIs and a .717 OPS over 257 games in six years with the Angels. He never played more than 58 contests in any of those campaigns.</p><p>Prior to joining Los Angeles, Rendon finished as a 2019 NL MVP finalist after hitting 34 homers with 126 RBIs and a 1.010 OPS en route to helping the Washington Nationals win the World Series that season.</p><p>The 12-year veteran raised eyebrows in April 2024 when he publicly said that baseball is a job and that the sport has never been a top priority for him. He also openly mused in the past about whether MLB should shorten its season, which led ex-teammate Jonathan Papelbon to proclaim that the former All-Star "literally hates baseball."</p><p>If Rendon does retire, the two-time Silver Slugger will finish his career with 158 long balls, 295 doubles, 671 RBIs, and an .829 OPS across 1,173 games between the Angels and Nationals.</p>

However, the two-time Gold Glove winner finished in the 99th percentile in pop time and 95th in caught stealing.</p><p>Realmuto is on the open market after spending the last seven years with the Philadelphia Phillies. He and his family own a home in Clearwater, Florida, where the Phillies' spring training facility is also located.</p><p>Philadelphia is expected to attempt to re-sign Realmuto because the club doesn't have an internal replacement, according to Rosenthal.</p>

However, the Blue Jays and Phillies aren't on the list of clubs the 2024 NL MVP finalist would need to approve a move to, reports Morosi.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Toronto is a potential fit for the 32-year-old if the team decides to keep <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/8766" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/8766">Andrés Giménez</a> at shortstop with <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/9615" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/9615">Bo Bichette</a> testing free agency. The Phillies were bounced early in the playoffs in each of the last two years despite back-to-back NL East titles.</p><p>Marte reportedly rubbed some D-Backs teammates the wrong way by missing games and asking for days off during key stretches of seasons. He publicly apologized in August to try to clear the air after manager Torey Lovullo and shortstop <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/12530" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/12530">Geraldo Perdomo</a> came to his defense.</p><p>Marte is owed $92 million over the next five years with a 2031 player option after signing an extension in April.</p>

<p>The Boston Red Sox made a big splash on the trade market to improve their starting rotation.</p><p>The Red Sox acquired right-hander <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/3012" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/3012">Sonny Gray</a> and cash from the St. Louis Cardinals for right-hander <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/15514" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/15514">Richard Fitts</a>, pitching prospect Brandon Clarke, and a player to be named later or cash, the clubs announced Tuesday.</p><p>The Cardinals are sending $20 million to the Red Sox to cover Gray's 2026 salary, reports <a href="http://x.com/JeffPassan/status/1993364401236095191">ESPN's Jeff Passan</a>. </p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The three-time All-Star's contract was reworked as part of the trade. The revised agreement will pay him $31 million next season and includes a $10-million buyout on a 2027 mutual option, according to <a href="https://x.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/1993357795392098586">Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic</a>.</p><p>The 36-year-old waived his no-trade clause, which was included in the three-year, $75-million pact signed with St. Louis in November 2023.</p><p>Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said it's too early in the offseason to declare Gray as the team's No. 2 starter. </p><p>"I don't know how much sense it makes in November to put a number on a guy," Breslow said, according to <a href="https://x.com/bradfo/status/1993472599834476981/photo/1">Rob Bradford of WEEI</a>. "I think Sonny is a very talented major league player. The seasons that he has put up pretty consistently indicated that to be the case. </p><p>"That said, we still intend to improve our team and exactly what that looks like we don't know right now. But we'll continue to try and explore opportunities and figure out where that takes us." </p><p>Boston's rotation will now feature Gray, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/12246" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/12246">Garrett Crochet</a>, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///fmf_cl/players/57986" href="https://thescore.com/fmf_cl/players/57986">Brayan Bello</a>, and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/10752" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/10752">Kutter Crawford</a>. <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/16848" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/16848">Connelly Early</a>, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/20108" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/20108">Payton Tolle</a>, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/10786" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/10786">Patrick Sandoval</a>, and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///mlb/players/15805" href="https://thescore.com/mlb/players/15805">Kyle Harrison</a> are options to round out the group.</p><p>Gray posted a 4.28 ERA, 3.39 FIP, 1.23 WHIP, and 10.0 K/9 over 180 2/3 innings (32 starts) in 2025. He amassed a 7.4 fWAR across his two seasons with the Cardinals.</p><p>Fitts, 25, authored a 5.40 ERA with 1.31 WHIP and 8.0 K/9 over 45 innings (10 starts) this year. The 22-year-old Clarke was the fifth-ranked prospect in the Red Sox minor-league system, according to <a href="https://www.mlb.com/milb/prospects/redsox">MLB Pipeline</a>. The latter recorded a 4.03 ERA with 1.16 WHIP and 14.2 K/9 across 38 innings in Single-A in 2025.</p><p>"We have somewhere we need to go, and we're not there now, and the way to get there is building on our core talent and (acquiring) promising, young talent that can be with us for many years and have their best ahead of them," Cardinals president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom said, according to <a href="https://www.mlb.com/cardinals/news/sonny-gray-trade-cardinals-red-sox">John Denton of MLB.com</a>.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p>

Woodruff authored a 3.20 ERA with 11.6 K/9 over 64 2/3 innings (12 starts). Imanaga posted a 3.73 ERA with 7.3 K/9 across 144 2/3 innings (25 starts). And Torres went deep 16 times with 74 RBIs and a .745 OPS in 145 contests.</p><p>The players who declined remain free agents and will be attached to draft compensation. Those players can still re-sign with their 2025 club, but any team signing a major leaguer attached to a qualifying offer forfeits a 2026 draft pick to the club that lost the player. The draft pick is decided based on the value of the contract, if the signing team exceeded the competitive balance tax in 2025, and if the club receives revenue sharing.</p>

He recorded 18 homers with 95 RBIs and a .755 OPS across 131 contests en route to winning a Gold Glove in 2023. The six-year veteran is projected to make $6 million next year in his last arbitration-eligible campaign.</p>

However, his passing sparked an unresolved legal dispute over ownership between his wife and children, as well as his brothers.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"We will undertake this process with integrity and professionalism in a way that honors Peter's legacy and love for the Padres and lays the foundation for the franchise's long-term success," John Seidler, Peter's brother and new chairman, said in a statement. His reaction came after he stated in mid-July that he'd be "a Minnesota Twin for the rest of my life" when asked if he would welcome a move to another team.</p><p>Buxton has played his entire 11-year career with Minnesota.</p>
