Report: Reds, Moustakas agree to 4-year, $64M contract

Mike Moustakas finally got a big multi-year deal in free agency.

The Cincinnati Reds and the infielder agreed to a four-year, $64-million contract, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Moustakas, who's made 999 starts at third base over his career, will play second base for the Reds with Eugenio Suarez already manning the hot corner, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. All 40 of Moustakas' career starts at the keystone position came with the Milwaukee Brewers last season.

The 31-year-old slashed .254/.329/.516 with 35 home runs in 2019, making his third All-Star team in nine years.

Moustakas languished in free agency over the last two offseasons and had to settle for one-year deals with the Brewers and Kansas City Royals, even though he was one of the bigger names available.

Cincinnati non-tendered infielder Jose Peraza to make room for Moustakas on the 40-man roster, according to Rosenthal.

The Brewers, Moustakas' former club, were interested in re-signing him and catcher Yasmani Grandal, reports Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The latter ended up joining the Chicago White Sox on a multi-year deal Nov. 21.

Milwaukee could also lose another major talent before the 2020 campaign begins with closer Josh Hader reportedly on the trade block.
