The Arizona Diamondbacks and Gold Glove shortstop Nick Ahmed agreed to a four-year extension, the club announced Monday.

The deal, which runs through 2023, is worth $32.5 million and includes performance bonuses, a source told Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic.

The two sides were slated to go to arbitration after Ahmed reportedly requested $6.95 million for his 2020 salary while the team countered with $6.6 million. He was set to become a free agent following next season prior to his extension.

Ahmed's hearing was scheduled for Wednesday, but discussions about a potential extension picked up during the weeks since he and the team exchanged numbers, according to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com.

The 29-year-old slashed .254/.316/.437 with 19 home runs and 82 RBIs in 158 contests for the D-Backs last season. He also won his second consecutive Gold Glove for his defensive play at short.

Reliever Archie Bradley is the only Arizona player without a set salary for the 2020 campaign.
