"The Kraken" is staying in the Bronx, for now.

The New York Yankees tendered a contract to catcher Gary Sanchez ahead of Wednesday's deadline for arbitration-eligible players, the team announced.

Sanchez struggled last season, with Kyle Higashioka replacing him in the playoffs. Sanchez slashed .147/.253/.365 in 49 games after belting 34 home runs with an .841 OPS in 2019.

The 28-year-old managed only one hit in the 2020 postseason.

Sanchez, a two-time All-Star, owns a career .823 OPS with 115 homers and 286 RBIs over six years with the Yankees.
