San Diego Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer has been mentioned in recent trade talks, sources told Ken Rosenthal and Dennis Lin of The Athletic.

The Padres are projected to end the season above the competitive balance tax threshold of $210 million, according to Rosenthal and Lin. Getting rid of all or part of Hosmer's contract could be a way for San Diego to get under the tax line.

It appears Hosmer could be packaged with one of the Padres' top four prospects in a deal, according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The 2016 All-Star is signed through the 2025 campaign after inking an eight-year, $144-million deal in February 2018. He also has a 10-team no-trade clause.

The 31-year-old is slashing .266/.330/.381 with eight homers and 48 RBIs across 92 games this season. He owns a .735 OPS over four years with the Padres.

The club is reportedly also looking to make more additions before the July 30 trade deadline, even after acquiring All-Star second baseman/outfielder Adam Frazier from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
