Yankees' Carpenter out 6-8 weeks with broken foot
The New York Yankees will be without the services of one of their unsung heroes for an extended stretch.
Carpenter will be re-evaluated in four weeks to get a better sense of his recovery and a potential timeline for his return to the field, Rivera adds.
"I’m very encouraged, very encouraged that we avoided surgery and got a clean break that just needs to heal, and we'll see how long it takes," Carpenter said.
The three-time All-Star suffered the injury when he fouled a ball off his foot during an at-bat in Monday's game against the Seattle Mariners.
Carpenter has authored a renaissance campaign, posting a 1.139 OPS with 15 home runs and 37 RBIs in just 47 games.
The Yankees dropped the rubber game of their series with the Mariners on Wednesday, falling to 2-7 in the month of August.
