The Arizona Diamondbacks and outfielder Corbin Carroll are making progress in negotiations over a long-term contract extension, sources told Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic.

Carroll, arguably the best prospect in baseball, was mysteriously scratched from Friday's spring game, which means he could be going through a physical exam connected to a potential deal, notes Piecoro.

The 22-year-old comes into the 2023 campaign as the favorite to win National League Rookie of the Year. He's currently under team control through 2028.

Carroll went deep four times with 14 RBIs and an .830 OPS across 32 games last season for Arizona. He slashed .307/.425/.611 with 24 homers and 31 stolen bases over 93 contests in the minors in 2022.
