Scherzer won't waive no-trade clause this season: 'We're going to win here'

Texas Rangers right-hander Max Scherzer won't be switching teams at the trade deadline this year.

"Yeah, I'm not gonna do that," Scherzer told Foul Territory's A.J. Pierzynski when asked if he would waive his no-trade clause this season.

"But I just don't think I even have to think about that. We're going to play better baseball. It's going to be even a moot point to even talk about. I think we're going to win here."

Scherzer's name has come up in trade rumors as the July 30 deadline approaches with the defending World Series champions playing below expectations.

The Rangers, who have won five straight, enter Wednesday 5.5 games back of the top spot in the American League West and seven games behind the Boston Red Sox for the AL's third wild-card spot.

Scherzer has been effective in limited duty for the Rangers this season, posting a 3.09 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in 23 1/3 innings after spending most of the campaign on the injured list.

The Rangers acquired the three-time Cy Young winner and cash from the New York Mets for prospect Luisangel Acuña last July.

Scherzer has been traded twice since 2021.
