The Boston Red Sox reached out to the Los Angeles Dodgers about left-hander James Paxton, according to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe.

Paxton, who pitched for the Red Sox in 2023, was designated for assignment Monday due to the imminent returns of Tyler Glasnow and Clayton Kershaw to the Dodgers' rotation.

The 35-year-old Paxton owns a 4.43 ERA with a 1.45 WHIP and 64 strikeouts over 89 1/3 innings (18 starts) in 2024 after inking a one-year, $7-million deal in the offseason.

The 11-year veteran could provide depth to a Red Sox rotation that already includes Tanner Houck, Nick Pivetta, Brayan Bello, Kutter Crawford, and Cooper Criswell.
