Orioles' Hyde trying to stay positive amid struggles: 'It's hard'
The Baltimore Orioles are struggling as the postseason approaches, and it's affecting the demeanor of manager Brandon Hyde.
"I'm trying to stay patient and positive. It's hard right now," Hyde said on Thursday, according to MASN's Steve Melewski.
"Sometimes I don't feel very positive but try to be as positive as I possibly can. I want the players to see I believe in them."
Hyde's comments come during an awful second half for the Orioles, who haven't been able to post a winning month since they entered the All-Star break with a 58-38 record.
The Orioles are playing particularly poorly in September. They've been outscored by eleven runs and only managed six wins despite playing the majority of the month against teams under .500. Two of those victories were against the historically bad Chicago White Sox.
Baltimore has been without a number of key players due to injuries, but Hyde points to the grind of a 162-game season as the team clings onto the first wild-card spot with 10 games left on its schedule.
"Even the wins have been a struggle, and they just haven't come easy," Hyde said, according to The Baltimore Sun's Matt Weyrich.
"It’s just been hard. First half, we had a lot of things go right and this second half - it's just been a grind."
