The Kansas City Royals and right-hander Ross Stripling agreed to a minor-league contract, the club announced Wednesday.
Stripling posted a 6.01 ERA with 1.54 WHIP and a career-low 5.2 K/9 over 85 1/3 innings (14 starts) in a swingman role with the Oakland Athletics last season. However, the 35-year-old produced a 3.89 FIP, which means he experienced some bad luck on balls in play in 2024.
The nine-year veteran is just two seasons removed from authoring a 3.01 ERA with 1.02 WHIP and 111 strikeouts over 134 1/3 innings (24 starts) with the Toronto Blue Jays during the 2022 campaign.
The 2018 All-Star has also pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants during his career.
