Yankees' Chisholm fires back at 'idiot' critics of torpedo bat

New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. believes the criticism of his team's torpedo bats is overblown and unwarranted.

"Okay, explanation the barrel is bigger and within MLB regulation," Chisholm wrote Monday on X. "For the idiots that say it's moved to the label, you're an idiot. Nobody is trying to get jammed, you just move the wood from the parts you don't use to the parts you do. You're welcome, no more stress for y'all."

Chisholm used the bat to hit three of the Yankees' MLB record-trying 15 homers over the first three games of the season. The odd-looking lumber created a big buzz Saturday during New York's 20-9 win over the Milwaukee Brewers after the Bronx Bombers went deep nine times.

"I think it's terrible," Brewers closer Trevor Megill said following that game, according to Dan Martin of the New York Post. "We'll see what the data says. I've never seen anything like it before. I feel like it's something used in slow-pitch softball. It's genius: Put the mass all in one spot. It might be bush (league). It might not be. But it's the Yankees, so they'll let it slide."

However, since news of the torpedo went viral, several players on multiple teams around baseball were also identified as users of the innovation, which MLB deemed legal.

Marucci Sports, one of the torpedo suppliers, received plenty of requests for the product following the Yankees' power display, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Miami Marlins field coordinator Aaron Leanhardt, who used to be a lead analyst for the Yankees and holds a Ph.D. in physics from MIT, is generally credited for creating the bat and bringing it to the majors last season.
