Mets call up hot-hitting Mauricio from minors, place Vientos on IL
The New York Mets are calling up infield prospect Ronny Mauricio from Triple-A Syracuse, the club announced Tuesday.
New York placed third baseman Mark Vientos on the injured list with a right hamstring strain in a corresponding move. He fell while coming out of the batter's box in Monday's win over the Dodgers.
Mauricio will join the Mets ahead of Tuesday's game in Los Angeles.
The 24-year-old has been on fire in the minor leagues, slashing .515/.564/.818 with three home runs, eight RBIs, and four steals in nine games at Triple-A after an extended layoff while recovering from a torn right ACL.
The Dominican had been a top-100 prospect for several years before his knee injury caused him to drop off the charts this season.
Vientos, meanwhile, is one of several Mets who has struggled at the plate this season. He owns a .678 OPS (94 OPS+) through 208 plate appearances after slugging 27 home runs in 111 games in 2024.
Nick Madrigal, Jose Siri, and Jesse Winker remain sidelined.
