The Arizona Diamondbacks placed ace right-hander Corbin Burnes on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation, the team announced Tuesday.
Burnes left Sunday's contest against the Washington Nationals with right elbow discomfort. Initial tests were inconclusive, and the 30-year-old was expected to seek a second opinion.
The 2021 NL Cy Young winner owns a 2.66 ERA and 8.8 K/9 during his first season with the D-Backs after inking a six-year, $210-million contract during the offseason.
Right-hander Ryne Nelson will take over Burnes' spot in the starting rotation, according to John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Phoenix.
Tommy Henry was recalled from Triple-A to fill Arizona's open roster spot.
