The Cleveland Guardians are placing veteran first baseman Carlos Santana on outright waivers, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Zack Meisel.

The roster decision likely signals an end to Santana's third stint with the Guardians, Rosenthal added. The 39-year-old has lost playing time in recent weeks to younger players Kyle Manzardo and C.J. Kayfus.

Santana posted a .225/.316/.333 slash line with 11 home runs and 52 RBIs in 116 games for the Guardians this season. He owns an .805 OPS with 227 home runs across 11 campaigns with Cleveland. Santana has played five additional seasons with various organizations.

Santana signed a one-year, $12-million deal in December after Josh Naylor was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
