Blue Jays' Bichette placed on 10-day IL due to knee sprain

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a right knee sprain, the team announced Tuesday.

The move is retroactive to Sunday, Sept. 7, meaning the earliest Bichette can return is next Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. In a corresponding move, Toronto recalled outfielder Joey Loperfido, who will be active Tuesday versus the Houston Astros.

Bichette sustained his injury over the weekend after colliding with New York Yankees catcher Austin Wells on a play at the plate. The Blue Jays star missed the series finale Sunday.

The two-time All-Star leads MLB with 181 hits and 44 doubles this season. He also has 18 home runs and a team-high 94 RBIs in 139 games.
