<p>The AFC playoff field welcomed three teams after the Indianapolis Colts' loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football.</p><p>With the Colts' 48-27 defeat, the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Chargers, and Jacksonville Jaguars officially punched their tickets to the postseason.</p><p>The 11-4 Jaguars are currently the conference's No. 3 seed but have yet to clinch the AFC South. The Houston Texans rank second in the division with a 10-5 record ahead of the season's final two weeks.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The Bills are also 11-4 and sit as the conference's No. 6 seed at the moment. They remain one game behind the 12-3 New England Patriots.</p><p>Finally, the Chargers place second in the AFC West at 11-4 behind the Denver Broncos, owners of a 12-3 mark. The Chargers visit the Broncos in their regular-season finale. Los Angeles wins the tiebreaker over Buffalo for the No. 5 seed for having a better record in conference games.</p><p>The Broncos and Patriots had already clinched their playoff spots in the AFC.</p>

<p>The NFL suspended Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/111570" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/111570">DK Metcalf</a> two games for his altercation with a spectator during Sunday's win over the Detroit Lions, the league announced Monday.</p><p>Metcalf <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3434153" href="https://thescore.com/news/3434153">took a swing</a> at a fan wearing a Lions T-shirt in the stands. He plans to appeal the suspension, a source told <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/2003231161917821333?s=20">ESPN's Adam Schefter</a>.</p><p>"Metcalf's actions violate league policy, which specifies that 'players may not enter the stands or otherwise confront fans at any time on game day, and ... if a player makes unnecessary physical contact with a fan in any way that constitutes unsportsmanlike conduct or presents crowd-control issues and/or risk of injury, he will be held accountable,'" the NFL said in a statement.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The spectator has <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3435063" href="https://thescore.com/news/3435063">denied</a> allegations that he used a racial slur before Metcalf approached him. Metcalf has yet to publicly address the incident after not speaking to media postgame.</p><p>Metcalf's suspension would cost him $277,778 in salary per game. The 28-year-old's contract with Pittsburgh also states that his guarantees "will be null and void" if he "fails ... to practice or play with the club for any reason," according to <a href="https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/dk-metcalf-suspension-voids-40m-in-guarantees-gives-steelers-future-financial-out/">CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones</a>.</p><p>If Metcalf's suspension is upheld, the Steelers could choose to <a href="https://x.com/ProFootballTalk/status/2003325944979947894">void</a> his remaining guarantees worth $45 million in 2026 and 2027 combined. Metcalf would still be able to earn that money over the next two seasons.</p><p>Metcalf signed a four-year, $132-million extension with the Steelers in March after joining the team as part of a trade from the Seattle Seahawks.</p><p>The Steelers wide receiver finished the matchup against the Lions with four catches for 42 yards, helping his team claim a 29-24 triumph that moved Pittsburgh closer to the AFC North title. The team is one win away from clinching the division crown. </p><p>The Steelers face the Cleveland Browns on Sunday before ending their regular season against the Baltimore Ravens.</p>

"He is a physical, hard-nosed competitor with proven offensive ability, and we are very excited to have him join the Blue Jackets."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The move takes place roughly six months after the Kraken acquired Marchment from the Dallas Stars for a fourth- and third-round pick. He originally signed a four-year, $18-million contract with the Stars in 2022.</p><p>Marchment's contract is worth $4.5 million for 2025-26. None of it will be retained in the deal sending him from Seattle to Columbus, according to <a href="https://x.com/reporterchris/status/2002245406063726784?s=20">The Athletic's Chris Johnston</a>. The Winnipeg Jets were also linked to the 30-year-old earlier this week.</p><p>Marchment recorded two 20-goal seasons with Dallas, but he scored four goals across 29 appearances this season with the Kraken. He's also posted nine assists in 2025-26.</p><p>The Blue Jackets will face the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday, but it's unclear if the newly acquired Marchment will be in the lineup.</p>

He's appeared in only 11 games this season, averaging 17.2 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists.</p><p>The three-time All-Star also dealt with a hamstring issue in the preseason and missed a couple of regular-season contests with a rib cage contusion.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>With the Kings off to a 6-21 start to the 2025 campaign, a healthy Sabonis would presumably be a top trade candidate for the team prior to the Feb. 5 deadline.</p>

"I just remember every day pushing myself. I always feel like the faster you rehab, the faster you can get back to practicing the sport that you know you love. I think sometimes people will pace themselves. But that requires an all-out commitment, and it's the same commitment that the great professional athletes make to be great at their profession."</p><p>Brady and Mahomes each won three Super Bowls before suffering a torn ACL.</p><p>Brady returned from his injury in 2009 with 4,398 passing yards and 28 touchdowns against 13 interceptions, claiming the Comeback Player of the Year award that season. The Patriots made the playoffs with a 10-6 record but lost in the wild-card round. Brady finished his career with seven Vince Lombardi Trophies.</p>

He added 15 yards and one TD on the ground.</p><p>It's the first time the Chiefs will miss the postseason since 2014. They had reached the AFC title game each year since Mahomes became their starter in 2018, winning three Super Bowls in that span.</p><p>Kansas City started the 2025 campaign 0-2 but clawed back to 5-3 in the season's first half. However, Mahomes and Co. weren't able to replicate that success in recent weeks, losing five of their past six games.</p>

They don't want to play Notre Dame because we're Notre Dame," Love said Friday when asked about the threat of avoiding Notre Dame in the future, according to <a href="https://x.com/MikeBerardino/status/1999609175236624855">Mike Berardino of NDInsider.com</a>.</p><p>Notre Dame stole headlines last week by declining to play a bowl game after the College Football Playoff committee moved the Miami Hurricanes into the 12-team field at the Irish's expense.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Athletic director Pete Bevacqua recently revealed that the Irish signed a memorandum of understanding with the CFP that guarantees the program a spot in the 12-team playoff field if it's ranked in the top 12 in 2026. As a result of that agreement, athletic directors in other conferences have threatened to freeze Notre Dame out of future schedules, according to <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/college-football/breaking-news/article/after-notre-dames-numerous-tantrums-whats-the-schools-endgame-a-divorce-from-the-acc-223358361.html?guccounter=1">Yahoo Sports' Dan Wolken</a>.</p><p>"You're leaving us out of your schedule; it's not a good look. The star tailback rushed for 1,372 yards (6.9 per carry) and 18 touchdowns in 2025 to go along with 280 receiving yards and three TD catches. </p><p><em>Other finalists: Ahmad Hardy (Missouri), Kewan Lacy (Ole Miss)</em></p><h3>Outland Trophy (best interior lineman)</h3><p><strong>Winner: </strong>Spencer Fano, Utah</p><p>Fano came into the season with plenty of NFL buzz surrounding him and delivered all year for Utah. Fano allowed zero sacks in 382 pass-blocking snaps on the season, according to <a href="https://x.com/PFF_College/status/1999635803694334377?s=20">PFF</a>. The 6-foot-6, 302-pound junior is one of the more athletic interior linemen in the country and should be one of the top picks in April's NFL draft.</p><p><em>Other finalists: Logan Jones (Iowa), Kayden McDonald (Ohio State)</em></p><h3>Jim Thorpe Award (best defensive back)</h3><p><strong>Winner: </strong>Caleb Downs, Ohio State</p><p>Downs became the third Ohio State player to be named college football's best defensive back - and no one should be surprised by it. A cornerstone of the Buckeyes' stout defensive unit, Downs was all over the field in 2025, finishing the campaign with 60 tackles (five for loss), two pass breakups, two interceptions, and one sack.</p><p><em>Other finalists: Mansoor Delane (LSU), Leonard Moore (Notre Dame)</em></p><h3>Coach of the Year</h3><p><strong>Winner: </strong>Curt Cignetti, Indiana</p><p>They might as well rename this award for Cignetti after the Indiana coach took home the honors for the second year in a row. That being said, it's tough to argue with the decision, as he helped deliver Indiana's first Big Ten title in 58 years with a win over Ohio State in the conference championship game. That victory snapped a 37-game losing streak for the Hoosiers versus the Buckeyes and secured the No. 1 seed for the College Football Playoff.</p><h3>Ray Guy Award (best punter)</h3><p><strong>Winner: </strong>Brett Thorson, Georgia</p><p>Thorson joined Drew Butler (2009) as the only Georgia punters to win the Ray Guy Award. It was inex-f-----g-cusable."</p><p>The Buccaneers, who've now lost five of their past six games, took a 28-14 lead in the fourth quarter but weren't able to hold on. He finished the night with 19 completions on 34 attempts for 277 yards and two touchdowns against one pick.</p><p>The Bucs once seemed like a lock to win the NFC South, but Bowles' outfit now ranks second in the division behind the 7-6 Carolina Panthers, who face the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
