Report: Edwin Díaz seeking $100M deal in free agency
All-Star closer Edwin Díaz has set the bar for what he's looking for on the open market.
Díaz is eyeing a deal similar to the five-year, $102-million contract he signed with the New York Mets in November 2022, a source told Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic.
The 31-year-old became a free agent after opting out of the final two years and $38 million left on his pact with the Mets.
Díaz has a qualifying offer from New York attached to him, which means a team would surrender one or potentially two draft picks if he signs a deal with a new club.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have already been linked to Díaz, as the defending two-time World Series champions have a glaring hole in the back of their bullpen. Tanner Scott struggled in his first year as the club's closer after landing a lucrative long-term contract last offseason, while Roki Sasaki is still considered a starting pitcher despite closing in the playoffs.
The Dodgers would lose their second- and fifth-highest selections, as well as $1 million from their international bonus pool, if they sign Díaz because they pay a competitive balance tax due to the team's payroll.
The right-hander posted a 1.63 ERA with 28 saves and 13.3 K/9 over 66 1/3 innings in 2025. His 253 saves trail only Kenley Jansen among all MLB relievers since 2016.
