The New York Mets have signed veteran reliever Craig Kimbrel to a minor-league deal that includes an invite to spring training, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Kimbrel posted a 2.25 ERA last season in 12 innings across 14 appearances with the Atlanta Braves and Houston Astros. He struck out 17 batters and allowed 10 hits plus seven walks.

He also spent time in the Texas Rangers' system but did not make an MLB appearance with the club.

The addition of Kimbrel is the latest signing in what has been a busy offseason stretch for the Mets. They acquired center fielder Luis Robert Jr. on Tuesday and two-time All-Star right-hander Freddy Peralta the following day. Former Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette also signed with the Mets last week.

Kimbrel, 37, is a nine-time All Star and has racked up 440 saves over his career, fifth most in MLB history.

If Kimbrel finds a spot on the big-league roster, he'll join a retooled bullpen that includes newcomers Devin Williams and Luke Weaver. The Mets' bullpen took a big blow after losing closer Edwin Díaz to the Los Angeles Dodgers in free agency.
