Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony was named to Team USA's roster for the World Baseball Classic as an injury replacement for Corbin Carroll, MLB announced Monday.

Anthony's addition to Team USA, which was first reported Friday, became official after he passed his physical over the weekend.

"So if it all goes well, the goal for me is to play," Anthony said Friday before taking his physical, according to Tim Healey of The Boston Globe.

"It'd be an honor, for sure. It was something I'm super excited about, and when I got news of it, obviously super sad for (Carroll). You don't want to see that ever. But it would be a great opportunity and a great learning lesson for me, to go be around a bunch of the best players in the game."

Carroll was ruled out of the WBC after reportedly undergoing surgery to repair a fractured hamate bone in his right hand.

Anthony joins a star-studded American roster after a terrific MLB debut in 2025. He slashed .292/.396/.463 with eight home runs, 18 doubles, and 32 RBIs in 71 games and finished third in AL Rookie of the Year voting.
