Report: A's make long-term extension offer to Kurtz
The Athletics offered a long-term extension to first baseman Nick Kurtz, sources told the New York Post's Joel Sherman.
However, it's unknown whether the sides will get "to the finish line" on a deal, adds Sherman.
"Definitely open and interested," Kurtz said Tuesday when asked about a potential extension, according to The Athletic's Tyler Kepner.
The 22-year-old Kurtz took home AL Rookie of the Year and Silver Slugger honors in 2025 after slashing .290/.383/.619 with 36 home runs and 86 RBIs in 117 games. The No. 4 pick from the 2024 draft also ranked first in wRC+ and second in fWAR among major-league first basemen with at least 450 plate appearances and played above-average defense at his position.
If Kurtz inks an extension, he'd be the latest player to sign a long-term deal with the Athletics.
Brent Rooker, Lawrence Butler, Tyler Soderstrom, and Jacob Wilson have all received contract extensions prior to the franchise's move to Las Vegas for the 2028 season.
