The Philadelphia Phillies are restructuring left-hander Cristopher Sánchez's contract, ripping up his original deal in an unusual move.

Sánchez, who was under contract through 2028 and had $20 million in guarantees, agreed to a new six-year deal from 2027-32 with a club option for 2033, reports The Athletic's Matt Gelb.

The deal has $107 million in guarantees through 2032, including Sánchez's $3.5-million salary in 2026, a source told Gelb. It also includes more than $13 million in performance incentives, sources told MLB reporter Francys Romero.

Sánchez still had three years and two club options left on a team-friendly contract extension he signed in June 2024, making his new deal an unprecedented move. His now-shredded club options for 2029 and 2030 were worth $15 million and $16 million, respectively.

The 29-year-old, who's been named the Phillies' Opening Day starter for Thursday, posted a 2.50 ERA and 1.06 WHIP across 32 regular-season starts last season.
