UFC 300 prelim results: Prochazka, Harrison nab finishes

Jiri Prochazka def. Aleksandar Rakic

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka returned to the win column in devastating fashion Saturday night.

Prochazka defeated Aleksandar Rakic via TKO at the 3:17 mark of the second round in the final preliminary bout of UFC 300.

Prochazka rocked Rakic with a right hand and then pummeled him with a barrage of shots against the fence. Rakic eventually retreated to the canvas, where Prochazka landed ground-and-pound until referee Herb Dean waved off the fight.

After the victory, Prochazka said he wants to challenge the winner of Saturday's main event between 205-pound champion Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill. Prochazka suffered a TKO loss to Pereira in a vacant title bout at UFC 295 last November.

Prochazka, who signed with the UFC in 2020 after an impressive run under the Rizin FF banner, improved to 4-1 in the Octagon.

Rakic stepped into the cage for the first time since tearing his ACL in a May 2022 loss to Jan Blachowicz. Rakic is riding the first losing streak of his career.

Aljamain Sterling def. Calvin Kattar

Former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling is 1-0 as a featherweight.

Sterling defeated Calvin Kattar via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) in his 145-pound debut. Sterling controlled Kattar with grappling throughout the fight, converting eight of 13 takedowns.

"Funk Master," who entered as the No. 2-ranked fighter at 135 pounds, will likely crack into the top 10 at featherweight next week. Kattar was No. 8 in the division coming in.

Sterling moved up a weight class after dropping the bantamweight title in a knockout loss to Sean O'Malley at UFC 292 last August. Sterling, 34, is now 10-1 in his last 11 Octagon appearances.

Kayla Harrison def. Holly Holm

Kayla Harrison put on a flawless performance against Holly Holm in her UFC debut.

The former two-time PFL champion submitted Holm with a rear-naked choke at the 1:47 mark of the second round. The fight marked Harrison's debut in the women's bantamweight division.

"I want my title next," Harrison, who signed with the UFC in January, said in her postfight interview. "That's what I came over here for. I don't care if it's (UFC women's bantamweight champion) Raquel (Pennington), I don't care if it's Julianna (Pena). By the end of the year, I will be UFC champion."

Harrison dominated Holm in the first round before locking up the submission in the second. She got on top and smashed the former UFC 135-pound champ with vicious punches and elbows, going ahead 46-0 in significant strikes after five minutes.

Harrison quickly threw Holm to the mat in Round 2, took her back, and then secured the finish.

Harrison, a former two-time Olympic gold medalist in judo, is now 17-1 in pro MMA. Harrison is widely regarded as one of the top women's fighters in the sport. Holm was ranked No. 5 in the division entering the fight.

Diego Lopes def. Sodiq Yusuff

Diego Lopes emerged as a potential star in the UFC featherweight division with a statement win over Sodiq Yusuff.

Lopes hurt Yusuff with an uppercut early in the first round and then finished him off with heavy ground-and-pound shots, earning a TKO stoppage at the 1:29 mark.

After the victory, Lopes called for a rematch with Movsar Evloev. Lopes lost to Evloev in his UFC debut last May on five days' notice but is 3-0 since then. The Brazilian, who trains out of Mexico, will join the 145-pound rankings next week after taking out the No. 13-ranked Yusuff.

Renato Moicano def. Jalin Turner

Renato Moicano overcame a first-round knockdown to upset Jalin Turner via TKO at the 4:11 mark of the second round.

Turner dropped Moicano with a heavy straight left in the final seconds of Round 1. However, Moicano survived, scored a takedown when he came out for Round 2, and didn't let Turner return to his feet. Moicano postured up and unloaded with ground-and-pound, forcing Turner to cover up and the referee to step in.

Moicano entered the matchup as the No. 13-ranked lightweight. Turner was ranked No. 10. Moicano is now riding a three-fight winning steak and is 2-0 in 2024.

Jessica Andrade def. Marina Rodriguez

Former strawweight champion Jessica Andrade defeated Marina Rodriguez via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28) in an exciting battle of Brazilian contenders.

Andrade's power shots were the difference-maker throughout the bout. She hurt Rodriguez late in the second round and consistently landed the more impactful offense.

Andrade, 32, was riding a three-fight losing streak eight months ago but has now won two straight.

Bobby Green def. Jim Miller

Bobby Green annihilated Jim Miller in a lightweight bout, winning via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-25, 29-26) to get back on track after a December knockout loss.

Miller hurt Green in the first round, but Green dominated the rest of the fight with devastating strikes. Green dropped Miller late in the third round and left him a bloody mess.

After the victory, Green called out rising star Paddy Pimblett and said he wants the fight to happen in England, Pimblett's home country.

Miller, 40, is the only fighter to compete at UFC 100 in 2009, UFC 200 in 2016, and now UFC 300.

Deiveson Figueiredo def. Cody Garbrandt

Former two-time UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo kicked off the event in impressive fashion. He submitted ex-bantamweight champ Cody Garbrandt, securing a rear-naked choke finish at the 4:02 mark of the second round.

Figueiredo is now 2-0 at 135 pounds after beating Rob Font by unanimous decision in his divisional debut last December.

"I want my shot at the belt," Figueiredo said in his postfight interview. "Please, I need my shot."
