Former Bellator bantamweight champion Patchy Mix agreed to part ways with the PFL on Tuesday, making him one of the top free agents in mixed martial arts.Mix is officially free to sign with any promotion, as the PFL doesn't have a matching period, sources told <a href="https://x.com/arielhelwani/status/1922443014082822594">Uncrowned's Ariel Helwani</a>."Professional Fighters League and Patchy Mix have mutually agreed to not extend his contract," the promotion <a href="https://x.com/PFLMMA/status/1922433803890413949">said</a> in a statement. "It feels f-----g good."He added: "Coming in there against someone like Belal with that sort of pressure and wrestling, I knew I had to be smart. The 37-year-old holds the most title-fight wins in women's 125-pound history at 10.Her latest victory against Fiorot was very competitive. Shevchenko started strong in Round 1, landing a few hard counter punches before making Fiorot's nose leak blood with a right hook. She also secured a takedown in the final 90 seconds.<div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div>However, Fiorot responded well in the second, defending Shevchenko's takedown attempts and outworking the champion on the feet. Fiorot managed to make the rest of the fight competitive, but in the end, Shevchenko's offense was a bit more effective than the challenger's. The biggest moment of the fight came in the final seconds of the fourth round when Shevchenko sat Fiorot down with a counter right.Shevchenko is now riding a two-fight winning streak. Fiorot, the No. 1-ranked women's flyweight contender, suffered her first UFC loss, falling to 7-1 in the promotion.

He debuted in the Octagon at UFC 12 in 1997 at the age of 19 and went on to enjoy lengthy tenures in the UFC, PRIDE FC, Strikeforce, and other organizations. He captured the UFC light heavyweight title with a stoppage win over Randy Couture at UFC 49 in 2004, but he lost the belt to Couture in his first defense.<div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div>Belfort unsuccessfully challenged for gold three times after that: at middleweight against Anderson Silva in 2011 and Chris Weidman in 2015, and at light heavyweight against Jon Jones in 2012.The 48-year-old Brazilian retired from mixed martial arts following a knockout loss to Lyoto Machida at UFC 224 in 2018. theScore's Nick Baldwin makes his picks for the UFC 315 main-card bouts ahead of Saturday's event in Montreal.<h3>Welterweight championship</h3>Belal Muhammad (24-3, 1 NC) vs. Jack Della Maddalena (17-2)Belal Muhammad is returning to the Octagon for the first time since dethroning Leon Edwards to become the new welterweight champion at UFC 304 last July. It's also his first fight since developing a bone infection in his foot that forced him out of a planned title defense against Shavkat Rakhmonov last December.<div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div>But this weekend, it won't be Rakhmonov standing across from Muhammad in the cage. Instead, it will be Australia's Jack Della Maddalena, who jumped at the opportunity to challenge Muhammad for the title as Rakhmonov recovers from an injury of his own.Della Maddalena, who has won seven straight since his UFC debut in 2022, does a lot of things very well. He's a high-level boxer, arguably one of the best in the promotion. His punches are crisp and fluid. And he has a great killer instinct, as shown in his come-from-behind knockout of Gilbert Burns in March 2024.But this is an MMA fight, not a boxing match.Muhammad, meanwhile, is the definition of a grinder. He does a great job of out-hustling his opponents on the feet, intending to eventually get them to the ground, where he's better than anyone else in the division. Muhammad has fought sharp strikers before - Edwards, Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson - and each bout has ended with Muhammad overwhelming and suffocating them with his wrestling. It's not always pretty, but it's effective. But it's still a passable test for one of the greatest women's fighters of all time.Manon Fiorot is undefeated in the UFC for a reason: She's a very athletic, sharp, and tactical striker who's had her way with all seven of her opponents in the Octagon.The problem for Fiorot is that Shevchenko is just as, if not more, technical on the feet. This isn't to say Fiorot can't beat Shevchenko standing up, but rather their exchanges will be competitive. Shevchenko outstriking Joanna Jedrzejczyk in 2018 is a result that holds up particularly well.If the fight ends up on the ground, it'll be all Shevchenko. She has unreal takedowns, vicious ground-and-pound, and heavy top control in her arsenal. Fiorot has shown solid takedown defense in the past, but she's never fought someone like Shevchenko.Fiorot will be a tough challenge for Shevchenko if the fight takes place mostly in the stand-up department. He's landed just one takedown in his UFC career, and that was all the way back in May 2019. Barring a complete overhaul of his game plan, Zahabi will go out there and try to outstrike Aldo - and it won't work.Aldo struggled against Mario Bautista in his last fight: Bautista kept pushing him up against the fence, and Aldo couldn't escape. But that won't be an issue against Zahabi. A fight against the Muhammad-Della Maddalena winner would seem like the logical next step - ideally at UFC 317, with the promotion running out of options. However, it's not quite this straightforward.Muhammad has said he'll never fight Makhachev because they've previously trained together. Makhachev doesn't seem particularly keen on the matchup either. This leaves the UFC in a bit of a dilemma.If Muhammad beats Della Maddalena and holds onto the welterweight belt, that would likely force Makhachev to stay at 155 pounds for the time being. A title defense against former featherweight champion Ilia Topuria would be a shoo-in for the UFC 317 main event. Not yet, anyway. Shavkat Rakhmonov was in line to challenge Muhammad next but was unavailable due to an injury. Della Maddalena just happened to be in the right place at the right time. This, at least to some degree, hampers the expectations for Della Maddalena. Bo Nickal is taking the first loss of his MMA career in stride.The UFC middleweight prospect came up short for the first time this past weekend, suffering a second-round TKO defeat to Reinier de Ridder in Des Moines, Iowa.Nickal reflected on the setback Tuesday on "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdFehoNurYc">The Ariel Helwani Show</a>," vowing to continue to improve his game.<div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div>"I don't really feel like the goal or myself or anything has changed," Nickal said. "It's unfortunate to kind of have to experience that because I hate losing. But I think even now, having gone through many, many losses in the past, and feeling like those were some of the biggest catalyzing moments in my career, I'm already very grateful for it. I think this is nothing but a learning opportunity and an experience that I think will just help me grow and improve and get better."Nickal, a three-time Division-I national champion in folkstyle wrestling, joined the UFC in 2023 as one of the brightest prospects in years. He found immediate success in the Octagon, scoring four straight wins, including three by stoppage.But De Ridder, a former ONE Championship two-division titleholder with a significant edge in MMA experience, was too much for Nickal. "I wasn't really afraid of that going in. I think more than being overconfident, it's just being naive. Being in certain situations and not realizing that I'm in danger. It just comes with experience."Again, I had an experience this past weekend that I'm gonna be really, really grateful for in the long run. He fought his fight, and I fought his fight, too. That's something that, moving forward in the future, I'm gonna know not to do."Nickal, who now sits at 7-1 in pro MMA, said he hopes to return to the cage sooner than later."I'll talk to the coaches and see what's best," Nickal said. Ryan Garcia didn't like fighting Rolly Romero in Times Square.Garcia suffered a shocking unanimous decision loss in Friday's welterweight main event in New York."I wasn't a fan of that at all," Garcia <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d54YMRp8ogw">said</a> at the postfight press conference of the event's quiet atmosphere. "It felt like a sparring match, and it felt like you could hear everybody. It just didn't feel authentic to me. But no excuses. It is what it is."<div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div>The event - put on by Turki Alalshikh and The Ring in the middle of Times Square - was invite-only, with around 300 VIP guests in attendance.Garcia, one of the biggest stars in boxing, competed for the first time since he was suspended for one year by the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) for multiple failed drug tests.Garcia was coming off a no-contest against former WBC junior welterweight champion Devin Haney in April 2024, originally a majority decision victory that was later overturned.Romero scored the only knockdown of Friday's fight, as he dropped Garcia with two left hooks in the second round. It was a rather uneventful matchup, with Garcia edging out Romero 66-57 in total punches. "It was a pretty off night," Garcia said. "Rolly did what he does. He does a lot of good power shots, caught me in the second round. But just even at the start of the fight, it just didn't feel like my feet were under me, like I had anything. But I just had to fight through it, and just found myself very off after the year layoff."He added: "I just didn't feel there. Didn't feel there at all. ... I just didn't let my hands go in any way, shape, or form. It's as simple as that."The 26-year-old fell to 24-2 (1 NC) after the first decision loss of his professional career."That whole year (during the suspension), it was a lot for me, mentally. So the fact that I got here and I'm in the position I am and my mind is as clear as it is, is a victory for me, I would say," Garcia said. "But I'm extremely disappointed in the way I fought. It definitely isn't my best in any way."
