Teixeira thought Pereira beat Ankalaev at UFC 313
Alex Pereira's team believes he should've retained his title against Magomed Ankalaev.
Glover Teixeira, the former UFC light heavyweight champion who now coaches Pereira, said he disagreed with Ankalaev earning a unanimous decision victory in last weekend's UFC 313 main event in Las Vegas.
Teixeira thought Pereira won Rounds 1, 3, and 5, he said in a video published Wednesday on Pereira's YouTube channel.
"We had this defeat, but in my opinion, he won," Teixeira said in Portuguese, as translated by MMA Fighting's Guilherme Cruz. "He lost on points, so now we go back to the drawing board and adjust a few things, train hard, and go back and get this rematch and make history. 'Poatan' has made history before, and he will make history again."
Pereira, one of the biggest stars in the UFC, was defending the 205-pound title for the fourth time since becoming champion in November 2023. Ankalaev used consistent pressure to outstrike Pereira on the feet and seize the throne.
Plinio Cruz, another coach of Pereira's, agreed that the judges got the decision wrong.
He also vowed to help Pereira correct his mistakes and win back the title.
"We'll train more, study more, get better to deliver you a better version of 'Poatan,'" Cruz said.
"What (Ankalaev has) done (will) make it worse for him because now he'll fight 'Poatan' 2.0."
