NSAC suspends Strickland 6 months for altercation
The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) suspended former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland for six months for his involvement in a post-fight altercation with a fighter at an MMA event in June.
The suspension is retroactive to June 29, the date of the incident, and will end Dec. 29. However, Strickland can have it reduced to four and a half months if he completes an anger management course. He also received a $5,000 fine.
The incident occurred at Tuff-N-Uff 145 in Las Vegas, where Strickland was cornering teammate Miles Hunsinger. Strickland stormed the cage and threw multiple punches at Luis Hernandez after Hernandez submitted Hunsinger and started taunting his corner.
UFC welterweight Chris Curtis was also in Hunsinger's corner and went after Hernandez but didn't throw a punch. The NSAC fined Curtis $2,500 for his role in the altercation.
Strickland is coming off a unanimous decision loss to then-middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 312 in February.
