76ers' Harrell diagnosed with torn ACL, meniscus
Philadelphia 76ers announced reserve center Montrezl Harrell was diagnosed with a torn ACL and meniscus in his right knee.
The discovery was made following an MRI on Wednesday, which was prompted by swelling in Harrell's knee after offseason workouts.
Simultaneous ACL and meniscus tears usually sideline players for most, if not all, of a season. The 76ers didn't provide a timetable for Harrell's recovery. The 29-year-old re-signed with Philadelphia this summer on a one-year deal after declining a reported $2.7-million player option for 2023-24.
The former Sixth Man of the Year averaged just 5.6 points in 57 appearances for the 76ers last season, his worst scoring output since his rookie year with the Houston Rockets.
Harrell was expected to provide frontcourt depth behind reigning MVP Joel Embiid. If he's out long term, the 76ers still have Paul Reed and new acquisition Mo Bamba as assurance behind their Cameroonian star.
