MacMahon adds that Paul has made his desire "clear."</p><p>However, Dallas reportedly isn't in a rush to send out the injured forward, who's expected to remain <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3454841" href="https://thescore.com/news/3454841">sidelined</a> through most of February after damaging ligaments in his left hand during a Jan. 8 loss to the Utah Jazz. <p>Los Angeles Lakers governor and minority owner Jeanie Buss believed <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/72" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/72">LeBron James</a> wasn't appreciative enough of the franchise drafting his son <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/121726" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/121726">Bronny James</a> in 2024, sources told <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/47594947/inside-jeanie-jerry-buss-family-infighting-drove-10b-sale-los-angeles-lakers-mark-walter">ESPN's Baxter Holmes</a>.</p><p>Buss denied the report, however, in a statement Wednesday afternoon.</p><p>"It's really not right, given all the great things LeBron has done for the Lakers, that he has to be pulled into my family drama," Buss told <a href="https://x.com/sam_amick/status/2014105259879309560">Sam Amick of The Athletic</a>. "To say that it wasn't appreciated is just not true and completely unfair to him."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Bronny has made 51 combined appearances over two seasons with the Lakers but has yet to crack head coach JJ Redick's main rotation. This season, he's averaging 1.5 points and 1.1 assists in 6.8 minutes per contest over 24 appearances.</p><p>Scouts initially rated Bronny highly, but a lackluster college season drastically lowered his stock. He played 25 games for USC in 2023-24, making six starts, and averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. His Trojans debut was delayed by a month after he went into cardiac arrest during a practice in July 2023.</p><p>Rich Paul, the agent of LeBron and Bronny, said during a July 2024 appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" that Buss made the decision to draft the USC product. A month later, Buss defended the pick herself, stating that Bronny had already emerged as "one of the hardest-working guys on the team."</p><p>Bronny made his professional debut in the Lakers' first game of the 2024-25 season as he and LeBron became the first father-son duo to play concurrently in the NBA.</p><p>Buss first developed resentment for the elder James after Los Angeles acquired <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/347" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/347">Russell Westbrook</a> in July 2021, sources told Holmes. The then-principal owner of the Lakers reportedly grew frustrated because the move was made to satisfy James, but she believed that he dodged accountability for the poor season that followed the Westbrook acquisition.</p><p>In 2022, Buss considered trading James to their local rivals, the Los Angeles Clippers, sources told Holmes. She reportedly also contemplated not extending the four-time MVP, though James eventually signed a two-year, $97-million extension in August.</p><p>James then recommitted to the franchise as a free agent in July 2024 on a two-year, $104-million deal that contains a no-trade clause. The contract expires following the 2025-26 season. The NBA's all-time scoring leader hasn't announced whether he intends to retire after the campaign.</p>

"So, we'll see where that unfolds.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"Always with these guys, I tell them I'm willing to work with them, want to help people out, whether that's J.K. or any player on our roster. We're good if that's his wishes, trying to figure that out, but we've got to do what's best for our organization, and that's what we'll do."</p><p>Kuminga has reportedly long been frustrated with his role in Golden State and has clashed with head coach Steve Kerr over his playing time. The 23-year-old was left out of the rotation in 16 consecutive games until suiting up in Tuesday's 145-127 loss to the Toronto Raptors. He scored 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting in 21 minutes off the bench - an opening created as a result of the season-ending ACL tear sustained by <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/2809" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/2809">Jimmy Butler</a> on Monday.</p><p>The Warriors (25-20) have statistically fared better without Kuminga this season; they're 16-10 when he doesn't play but 9-10 when he does. This past offseason, they re-signed the former restricted free agent to a two-year, $48.5-million contract with a team option in Year 2, a deal that ostensibly positioned the Congolese wing to be moved by the Feb. 5 trade deadline.</p><p>Multiple teams have <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3456168" href="https://thescore.com/news/3456168">reportedly</a> shown some interest in Kuminga over the last several months, including the Sacramento Kings, Dallas Mavericks, and Los Angeles Lakers. However, it's unclear how far trade talks progressed, if at all.</p><p>"I'm disappointed it hasn't worked out better,' Dunleavy said of Kuminga, according to <a href="https://x.com/anthonyVslater/status/2013808327810261330">Anthony Slater of ESPN</a>. "But it is what it is. ... I know a trade has been requested. But nothing is imminent. Things in this league can change in a heartbeat, as they did last night. So, he's gotta be ready."</p><p>Kuminga is averaging 12.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in his fifth season, starting in 13 of his 19 appearances.</p>

"It's a show of respect and also of progress, stepping up."</p><p>The Spurs improved to 29-13 with the win, keeping pace with the Denver Nuggets for second in the Western Conference. Both the Spurs and Nuggets also narrowed the distance to the first-place Oklahoma City Thunder, who suffered just their eighth loss of the season Saturday against the Miami Heat.</p>

<p>Washington Wizards wing <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/110270" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/110270">Cam Whitmore</a> has been diagnosed with upper-extremity deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder and will be out indefinitely, the team announced Tuesday.</p><p>Whitmore has missed Washington's last six games. He was re-evaluated after dealing with shoulder soreness during the last two.</p><p>The 21-year-old Maryland native joined the Wizards in an offseason trade from the Houston Rockets, with whom he spent his first two NBA seasons. Rockets general manager Rafael Stone said he dealt Whitmore to Washington "to provide him an opportunity to go home and be in a situation where he could really play" as Houston shifted its focus toward contention with marquee offseason addition <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/345" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/345">Kevin Durant</a>.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The Villanova product is averaging 9.2 points and 2.8 rebounds in 16.9 minutes across 21 games in Washington. He fared similarly in Houston, posting 10.8 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while averaging 17.4 minutes in two seasons. However, he hasn't been as effective from 3-point range in D.C., where he's shooting 28.6% on 2.7 attempts per game after hitting 35.7% on 4.1 attempts per contest in Houston.</p><p> </p>

<p>The NBA is considering measures to dissuade tanking, including a rule prohibiting teams from having a top-four pick in consecutive drafts, sources told <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/47398198/sources-nba-looking-new-ways-prevent-teams-tanking">ESPN's Shams Charania</a>.</p><p>That was reportedly one of several ideas the league presented during a board of governors meeting Friday. The NBA also suggested limiting protections on traded picks so that they can only protect the top four or the entire lottery (top 14) and floated the possibility of locking teams into their lottery positions March 1, according to Charania.</p><p>Combating tanking is reportedly a priority for the league after the federal indictments of Miami Heat guard <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/31126" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/31126">Terry Rozier</a>, Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups, and former player Damon Jones, which alleged that some gamblers used non-public information about players' statuses to their advantage.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>In the indictments of Rozier and Jones, an unnamed co-conspirator's description matched Billups, who was simultaneously indicted in a separate mafia-linked poker scheme.<strong> </strong>The unnamed individual allegedly told a man that the Trail Blazers would rest several of their top scorers for a March 2023 game against the Chicago Bulls that Portland intended to lose. Gamblers then allegedly bet over $100,000 on Chicago to win, and the Blazers lost 124-96.</p><p>The NBA instituted new injury reporting policies Monday, according to Charania. Teams now have to submit listings on game day between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. local time and update public injury reports every 15 minutes instead of hourly.</p>

<p>Los Angeles Clippers center <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/52287" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/52287">Ivica Zubac</a> will miss three weeks after sustaining a Grade 2 ankle sprain, sources told <a href="https://twitter.com/ChrisBHaynes/status/2002873761910104357">Chris Haynes of Amazon Prime Video</a>.</p><p>Zubac suffered the injury in the first quarter of Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers, forcing him to miss the rest of the contest after playing just under 11 minutes.</p><p>The 28-year-old rolled his left ankle after inadvertently stepping on LeBron James' foot with 1:13 left in the first frame. Following a stop in play, Zubac limped to the locker room.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The Clippers, who were up 26-12 at the time of the injury, held on to win 103-88.</p><p>Zubac has been one of Los Angeles' most consistent players during a tumultuous campaign for Tyronn Lue's squad. The Croatian international is averaging 15.6 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and one block while not missing any of the team's 28 games this season. He was a dependable body last year, too, missing just two games in January after being poked in the eye.</p><p>Though just 7-21 this season, Lue's squad has fared much better with Zubac on the court. His on/off net-rating differential of 10.2 is the second-largest swing involving any player on the team but the largest drop-off by any Clipper with at least 200 minutes played.</p>
