T-Wolves sweep Suns, earn 1st series win in 20 years

The Minnesota Timberwolves completed a four-game sweep of the Phoenix Suns thanks to their 122-116 victory Sunday night. Minnesota will advance to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since the 2003-04 season.

The win marks the first sweep in franchise history, per the Timberwolves.

Star guard Anthony Edwards put on another show in Game 4: He dropped 40 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished out six assists. The 22-year-old closed the game with an eye-popping dunk late in the fourth quarter.

Minnesota played the final 1:41 of the game without head coach Chris Finch, who is thought to have suffered a torn patellar tendon in his knee after a collision with T-Wolves guard Mike Conley.

Edwards reflected on beating his childhood idol, Kevin Durant, in his postgame press conference. "I've got the utmost respect for KD. Like he comes in and competes every night. I've watched every last one of his games since I've been about five," Edwards told Kenny Smith of Inside the NBA.

Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns enjoyed his best postseason game, recording 28 points on 11-of-17 shots from the field.

Suns guard Devin Booker scored 49 points in the loss, while Durant had 33 points and nine rebounds.

After the game, Durant chose to keep his feelings to himself. "Whenever I provide context, it will be looked at as an excuse. So I'll just be better next year," he said, according to Ben Golliver of the Washington Post.

Durant did, however, echo his appreciation for Edwards, calling the latter his "favorite player to watch," according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

Bradley Beal, who the Suns acquired last summer from the Washington Wizards in a three-team deal, fouled out in only 31 minutes of play. The 30-year-old had nine points on 4-of-13 shooting and six turnovers.

Minnesota will play the winner of the series between the Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round.
