Report: Redick to formally interview for Lakers job

After Dan Hurley reportedly turned down a $70-million contract offer, the Los Angeles Lakers are set to formally interview JJ Redick for their head coaching vacancy, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The ex-NBA sharpshooter is expected to move to the forefront of the Lakers' coaching search, assuming he performs strongly in his interview with the club's front office this weekend, adds Wojnarowski.

Redick initially spoke with Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka at last month's draft combine, Wojnarowski reports. The 15-year NBA vet will now reportedly meet with Pelinka and owner Jeanie Buss in Los Angeles to discuss the job further.

Redick and Pelinka recently talked over the phone, with the former coming to an understanding and acceptance of the Lakers' pursuit of Hurley, which delayed his own candidacy, adds Wojnarowski.

While Redick has no NBA head coaching experience, he interviewed for the Toronto Raptors' vacancy last offseason and the Charlotte Hornets' opening that resulted in the hiring of Boston Celtics assistant Charles Lee last month.

Redick joined ESPN as an on-air analyst in November 2021 following his playing days and is currently working on the outlet's lead broadcasting team for the NBA Finals.

The former lottery pick has also carved out a niche in the podcasting world, co-hosting a basketball strategy-focused podcast with LeBron James, titled "Mind the Game."
