<p>Michigan guard <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaab/players/163494" href="https://thescore.com/ncaab/players/163494">L.J. Cason</a> will miss the remainder of the season with a torn right ACL, Wolverines head coach Dusty May announced Saturday.</p><p>Cason sustained the injury during Friday's victory over Illinois.</p><p>"First and foremost, our hearts hurt for L.J.," May said in a statement. "You never want to see a young man who has poured so much into this program have something like this happen.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"However, if there's anyone equipped to handle this and the rehab process, it's LJ. He's resilient, he's disciplined, and he has an incredible support system around him."</p><p>Cason is in his second season with Michigan. The 6-foot-2 guard has been one of the top backup point guards in the country, averaging 8.4 points and 2.4 assists in 18.6 minutes across 28 appearances this campaign.</p><p>Cason was also shooting a career-high 40.2% from deep, a vast improvement from his freshman year.</p><p>Michigan clinched the Big Ten regular-season title Friday and is in the hunt for the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.</p><p>"This isn't how I wanted my season to end, but I trust God's plan, and I'll attack rehab the same way I approach everything - with focus and determination," Cason said. "We've got many goals as a team, and I'll be locked in supporting my brothers every step of the way."</p>

<p>Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia is hoping that a little financial incentive will be enough to entice some of the NBA's biggest stars into taking part at next year's All-Star Saturday in the desert.</p><p>Ishbia is offering $1 million to the winners of both the 2027 Slam Dunk and Three-Point Contests, with an additional $1-million donation going to a charity of each player's choice.</p><p>"Let's get the best guys in it," Ishbia said Wednesday on "<a href="http://x.com/PatMcAfeeShow/status/2026715708134916483?s=20">The Pat McAfee Show</a>." <p>NBA commissioner Adam Silver informed all general managers Thursday that the league plans to institute rule changes to combat tanking next season, sources told <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/2024603443743379808?s=20">ESPN's Shams Charania</a>.</p><p>A competition committee meeting in late January and Thursday's gathering of the NBA's 30 GMs reportedly discussed several potential measures to solve tanking, <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/2024603693673271697?s=20">Charania</a> added.</p><p>The proposals reportedly included limiting first-round pick protections to top-four or top-14-plus protected; freezing the lottery odds at the trade deadline or a later date; flattening the odds for all lottery teams; adjusting the lottery odds based on a team's two-year record; and extending the draft lottery to include all play-in teams rather than half of them.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The WNBA currently bases teams' draft lottery odds on their cumulative record from the past two regular seasons.</p><p>The NBA and executives also reportedly discussed restricting teams from picking in the top four in consecutive years and preventing teams that reached the conference finals or better from selecting in the top four the following year.</p><p>Silver <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3479019" href="https://thescore.com/news/3479019">revealed</a> at NBA All-Star Weekend that a number of options were on the table in an attempt to curb tanking.</p><p>The league recently handed out hefty <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3477942" href="https://thescore.com/news/3477942">fines</a> to the Utah Jazz and Indiana Pacers for violating the player participation policy.</p>

So, I think the most important (thing) is, if we can get healthy, how many minutes we could be on the floor, how much chemistry we can build with the sprint starting.</p><p>"You would hope that you can have the regular season and kind of build that cohesiveness and things of that nature, but I'm hoping that if we can get healthy that we can start to build that."</p>

<p>Dallas Mavericks owners Patrick Dumont and Miriam Adelson shut down the notion that they could sell the franchise just two years after buying a majority stake from Mark Cuban.</p><p>"The Dumont and Adelson families remain fully committed to the Dallas Mavericks franchise and to the Dallas community," a family spokesperson said in a statement to <a href="https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/mavericks/2026/02/11/dallas-mavericks-mark-cuban-buying-back-patrick-dumont-miriam-adelson-selling-team/">Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News</a>. "They remain focused on building a championship organization for the long term.</p><p>"The team is not for sale and the families look forward to expanding their ownership stake over time."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Cuban retained a 27% stake in the Mavs, but a provision in the sale agreement allows the Dumont and Adelson families to buy all but 7% of his shares within the first four years of their ownership, according to Townsend.</p><p>The Dumont and Adelson families have until December 2027 to exercise that option.</p><p>Cuban also gave up control of basketball operations soon after selling his majority stake.</p><p>An unidentified Dallas investor group is <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3475599" href="https://thescore.com/news/3475599">reportedly</a> interested in joining forces with Cuban to buy back the club. However, the businessman doesn't envision such a scenario unfolding in the near future.</p><p>"I get asked fairly often if I would be part of a group if they could buy the team," Cuban wrote Wednesday to Townsend. "I tell them all the same thing: I don't see them selling."</p>

<p>Dallas Mavericks rookie <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/171822" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/171822">Cooper Flagg</a> will miss Thursday's contest against the Los Angeles Lakers as well as the Rising Stars game after an MRI revealed a left midfoot sprain, the team announced Wednesday.</p><p>Flagg sustained the injury during Tuesday's matchup versus the Phoenix Suns. It's unclear when Flagg suffered the injury, as he played 36 minutes before exiting for good with 19.8 seconds remaining.</p><p>The No. 1 overall pick isn't expected to miss time beyond All-Star Weekend, a source told <a href="https://x.com/BannedMacMahon/status/2021781649831370957?s=20">ESPN's Tim MacMahon</a>.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>An injury replacement will need to be named for Flagg.</p><p>Atlanta Hawks forward <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/121714" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/121714">Zaccharie Risacher</a> was recently <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3476290" href="https://thescore.com/news/3476290">tabbed</a> to fill in for Oklahoma City Thunder guard <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/121739" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/121739">Ajay Mitchell</a>.</p><p>Flagg is the front-runner to win NBA Rookie of the Year honors. The Duke product is averaging 20.4 points, 6.6 boards, 4.1 assists, and 1.2 steals across 49 appearances this season.</p>

<p>Six-time All-Star forward Blake Griffin and two-time WNBA MVP Candace Parker are among the notable first-time nominees for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.</p><p>Griffin rose to stardom after going first overall to the Los Angeles Clippers in 2009. His jaw-dropping athleticism and highlight-reel dunks headlined the Clippers' "Lob City" era, during which they made six straight playoff appearances.</p><p>Griffin won the 2011 NBA Rookie of the Year award after sitting out the previous campaign with a knee injury. He was a five-time All-NBA selection and sits second on the Clippers' all-time scoring list.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Parker was also a top draft selection following a standout collegiate career with Tennessee. She spent most of her WNBA career with the Los Angeles Sparks, winning Finals MVP honors during the team's 2016 title run.</p><p>Parker led the WNBA in rebounding on three occasions and tallied the most blocks twice. She was a seven-time All-Star, 10-time All-WNBA selection, and two-time WNBA All-Defensive second-team member.</p><p>Jamal Crawford, Joe Johnson, and Elena Delle Donne are the other new players to make the shortlist.</p><p>Ex-Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl and current Houston lead man Kelvin Sampson are the only additional coaches who will receive consideration for this year's Hall of Fame class.</p><p>Mike D'Antoni, a two-time NBA Coach of the Year, earned his first nomination as a contributor.</p><p>The 1996 U.S. women's basketball team is also newly eligible for induction.</p><p>"The candidates for the class of 2026 have each left an indelible impact on the game of basketball," Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame president and CEO John L.
