The Massachusetts native was also an assistant with the Memphis Grizzlies from 2020-24.</p><p>Raman's only head coaching experience was a 12-year stint at Division III MIT. She is the program's all-time wins leader and a two-time NEWMAC Coach of the Year winner.</p><p>Seattle went 23-21 this past season, finishing seventh in the league standings. <p>The Toronto Tempo are hiring Sandy Brondello as the first head coach in franchise history, sources told <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dt0KuoO1KT0">Howard Megdal of The IX Sports</a>.</p><p>Brondello interviewed for the Dallas Wings' and Seattle Storm's coaching vacancies before choosing Toronto, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6741057/2025/10/22/toronto-tempo-sandy-brondello-head-coach/">The Athletic's Ben Pickman</a> reports.</p><p>Brondello joins the expansion team after being dismissed by the New York Liberty in September following four seasons together.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The 57-year-old enjoyed great success in the Big Apple, posting a 107-53 record and guiding the Liberty to their maiden WNBA title. She leaves as New York's all-time wins leader.</p><p>Brondello was also at the helm of the Phoenix Mercury from 2014-21. She captured Coach of the Year honors and led the team to a championship during her first year in charge.</p><p>She registered a winning record with Phoenix on six occasions. Her 150 regular-season victories and 24 playoff wins remain team records.</p><p>Brondello has coached some of the biggest stars in the women's game, including Diana Taurasi, Breanna Stewart, and Sabrina Ionescu.</p><p>She has a decorated international career, too, having led Australia to a pair of podium finishes at the FIBA Women's World Cup and a third-place finish at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.</p>

<p>Los Angeles Lakers superstar <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/72" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/72">LeBron James</a> is targeting a mid-November return after experiencing sciatica on his right side, <a href="https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1978650970843124004">ESPN's Shams Charania</a> reports.</p><p>James is taking a patient approach with his rehab and will require at least a few weeks to ramp up his conditioning, adds Charania.</p><p>The Lakers <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3364535" href="https://thescore.com/news/3364535">initially</a> ruled out James for at least three-to-four weeks last Thursday.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>James sustained the injury during an on-court workout in late July, according to Charania.</p><p>The four-time Finals MVP hasn't participated in any team practices or preseason games.</p><p>James continued to perform at a high level in his age-40 season, averaging 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, 7.8 rebounds, and one steal across 70 contests last year.</p><p>While he's been durable throughout most of his career, the 21-time All-Star has made 70 appearances or more in only two of his last seven campaigns.</p>

He has yet to suit up for the club after initially injuring his hamstring during training camp.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"We all know the soft tissue injuries are really hard to see exactly the progress," Ott said. "Obviously it's frustrating, but this is all part of it. Thankfully we caught it early. It's not that serious, but he wants to be out there.</p><p>"New teammates, new system. There's just other ways. He guided the franchise to their first Finals appearance in 13 years during the 2023-24 campaign.</p><p>"J-Kidd's basketball resume is one of the best in the game, and through every situation he has proven he's the right person to lead the Mavericks," said general manager Nico Harrison, according to <a href="https://apnews.com/article/dallas-mavericks-jason-kidd-contract-05169a1031938d12113463b3be4e14cb">The Associated Press</a>. "He has a track record of developing some of the best talent in the league as well as the ability to connect with players to bring out the best version of themselves."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Kidd drew interest from other teams in recent years. Thomas posted a 22% assist percentage in 2024-25, which ranked in the 95th percentile among wings, per <a href="https://cleaningtheglass.com/stats/player/4932#tab-offensive_overview">Cleaning the Glass</a>. However, he hasn't been able to stay healthy for an entire campaign and struggles defensively. Simons' shot-creation will be helpful, too, but he's been a major defensive liability throughout his first seven campaigns. Still, Kuminga won't be short on motivation this upcoming season as the team option for the second year is designed to be ripped up at the conclusion of the campaign, sources told <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/46441474/warriors-jonathan-kuminga-agree-2-year-485-million-deal">ESPN's Shams Charania</a>.</p><p>Kuminga will spend the next several months auditioning for a long-term investment from the Warriors or another club in the event he's traded midseason. The 23-year-old has shown flashes of potential with his ability to get into the paint and draw fouls. <p>Sacramento Kings forward <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/102776" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/102776">Keegan Murray</a> is out at least four-to-six weeks after an MRI revealed a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb, the team announced Sunday.</p><p>Murray sustained the injury during the second quarter of Friday's preseason game against the Portland Trail Blazers and will undergo surgery.</p><p>Sacramento drafted Murray with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2022 draft.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The Iowa product has started all but two of his appearances with the Kings. He was fifth in the Rookie of the Year voting in 2022-23 and named to the NBA All-Rookie first team.</p><p>Murray took a slight step back last season, averaging 12.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists across 76 appearances.</p><p>Sacramento has until 6 p.m. ET on Oct. 20 to sign Murray to a rookie-scale contract extension.</p>

Las Vegas' star duo of A'ja Wilson and Jackie Young were selected first overall in back-to-back years. Ex-Aces guard Kelsey Plum, who was a key starter on their previous two title-winning squads, was the club's top selection in the 2017 draft. Not every team will get the No. 1 overall pick in three consecutive seasons, but establishing a solid foundation through the draft should be the first step in every rebuild.</p><p>Las Vegas' front office was subsequently able to identify the right pieces to complement that homegrown core. The Aces signed Chelsea Gray in free agency four years ago to give themselves a proven option at the point. Alysha Clark arrived in 2023 as a free agent and earned Sixth Player of the Year honors that season. The veteran was also a key offensive contributor in their Finals triumph over the New York Liberty. Wilson tied a playoff career high with 38 points in Las Vegas' series-clinching win over the Seattle Storm in the opening round. The South Carolina standout came through again in the team's semifinal closeout victory versus the Indiana Fever, joining Tamika Catchings and Candace Parker as the only players with at least four points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks in a playoff game, per <a href="https://www.espn.com/wnba/story/_/id/46444658/aces-finish-fever-ot-game-5-reach-wnba-finals">ESPN Research</a>.</p><p>Wilson raised the bar once more in the championship series. She was the first player to produce back-to-back 25-point, 10-rebound performances in the WNBA Finals. Wilson's Game 3-winning jumper gave her a<strong> </strong>Finals career-high 34 points and the league's all-time record for 30-point games in the postseason. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year also tallied a WNBA-record 54 stocks during the Aces' playoff run.</p><p>Wilson joined exclusive company Friday as one of six multi-time Finals MVP winners and is now halfway to Cynthia Cooper's all-time record of four. She's the only NBA or WNBA player to capture the scoring title, MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, and Finals MVP in the same season, according to <a href="https://x.com/alexaphilippou/status/1976839050125607320">ESPN's Alexa Philippou</a>. Her 114 points during the Finals and 322 points overall during the entire playoff are both WNBA records, per <a href="https://x.com/kendra__andrews/status/1976839484659712481">ESPN Insights</a>. The seventh-year guard looked and played with as much confidence as she's ever had. Young registered a career-best 20.4 points on 49.4% shooting across 12 playoff appearances. She was a weapon in the pick-and-roll and kept defenders off balance with her ability to seamlessly change speeds on drives to the rim. When Young was in an off-ball role, she made timely cuts to the basket. The four-time All-Star was never hesitant to pull up from the mid-range or beyond the arc when opposing defenses gave her the slightest space.</p><p>Young and Wilson each topped 30 points in the Aces' Game 5 overtime victory against the Fever, becoming the first pair of teammates to accomplish the feat in the same playoff game. Young had an equally impressive showing less than a week later, dropping 32 points - including a Finals-record 21 in the third quarter - to help Las Vegas take a 2-0 series lead.</p><p>Young took on more playmaking responsibilities when Plum was traded to the Los Angeles Sparks during the offseason. She formed an effective two-man game with Wilson, often hitting the Aces superstar in stride on pocket passes. Young always had her head on a swivel when handling the rock. The Indiana native displayed tremendous court vision, hitting baseline cutters, creating for others off a live dribble, and setting up shooters off the drive-and-kick. It didn't exactly work out as Las Vegas planned - the former scoring champ asked to come off the bench midway through the campaign. Loyd had been a starter for virtually her entire career, but she wanted to put the team first. Her selfless approach was rewarded with a breakthrough Finals performance.</p><p>Loyd showed flashes of her old self against Phoenix, averaging 13.8 points and draining 44.8% of her 3-point attempts. Her eight points in the opening quarter of Game 1 turned the tide after the Mercury jumped out to an early 10-2 lead. She also made an immediate impact in the first quarter of Game 3, knocking down four straight triples to ignite a 17-0 scoring run. Loyd didn't take home Finals MVP honors, but she forced Phoenix to respect her shot, allowing Wilson more chances to feast against one-on-one coverage.</p>
