<p>Steve Ballmer's attorneys are asking to dismiss a lawsuit claiming the Los Angeles Clippers owner participated in fraud by paying star <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/4200" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/4200">Kawhi Leonard</a> through defunct sustainability startup Aspiration, referring to the allegations as "sensational" and "patently false" in court documents obtained by <a href="https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/47630738/clippers-ballmer-aims-dismiss-fraud-suit-kawhi-leonard-pay">ESPN's Baxter Holmes</a>.</p><p>Eleven Aspiration investors initially filed a lawsuit in July 2025 against co-founder Joseph Sanberg and others at the company, alleging they were defrauded of millions. Ballmer was not originally listed as a defendant. </p><p>Aspiration filed for bankruptcy last March, and Sanberg agreed in August to plead guilty to defrauding investors and lenders of more than $248 million.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>However, subsequent reporting by journalist Pablo Torre suggested that Ballmer's $50-million investment in Aspiration was an attempt to circumvent the NBA's salary cap by paying Leonard through the third-party company. The investors subsequently filed a revised complaint in November that named Ballmer as a defendant.</p><p>"Plaintiffs would not have invested and/or kept their investment in (Aspiration) if Ballmer and Sanberg had disclosed the true nature of Ballmer's investment," the Nov. 3 complaint said, per Holmes. "Ballmer thus supported and participated in Sanberg's fraud."</p><p>Ballmer and the Clippers denied making illicit payments to Leonard, calling the allegations "absurd" and denying knowledge of any agreements between the two-time Finals MVP and Aspiration.</p><p>Ballmer added that he himself was "conned" by Aspiration and worked with the company under the impression it was a legitimate up-and-coming business.</p><p>"I understand that Mr. Ballmer and his attorneys deny our claims, but the facts speak for themselves and overwhelmingly support our case," one of the plaintiffs' attorneys, Skip Miller, told Holmes.</p><p>"They are laid out in detail in our lawsuit. I'm not going to repeat them here. We're going to litigate this case in court and not the press."</p><p>Ballmer's representatives asked for the case to be dismissed and asked the Los Angeles County Superior Court to determine the suit did not allege sufficient facts for a legal claim. A hearing is scheduled for March 9.</p>

She hired renowned biomechanics specialist Gavin MacMillan last summer in hopes of improving her biggest weaknesses. MacMillan is no stranger to reclamation projects, having helped Aryna Sabalenka with her own serving problems before she became a four-time major champion and the world's top-ranked player.</p><p>When Gauff hired MacMillan, she vocalized her desire to generate sustained success over short-term results. The American star had a full offseason to implement MacMillan's pointers and grow comfortable with the changes. In 2025, Gauff managed to win 48 matches, including a French Open title, en route to a third straight finish in the WTA's top three. If she can iron out her flaws, the sky's the limit.</p><p>Gauff had a 75% first-serve percentage and committed only four double-faults in her recent United Cup win over Iga Swiatek, her fourth consecutive straight-sets victory over the Polish star after dropping 11 of their first 12 meetings.</p><h3>Osaka's resurgence</h3><p>Naomi Osaka turned her 2025 season around when she brought on Tomasz Wiktorowski to replace Patrick Mouratoglou. Wiktorowski famously worked with former World No. 2 Agnieszka Radwanska and guided Swiatek to four Grand Slam titles. It didn't take long for Osaka to reap the rewards, as she reached the National Bank Open final and US Open semifinal in her first two tournaments with Wiktorowski.</p><p>All seven of Osaka's titles have come on hard courts, including a pair of Australian Open trophies. Her raw power is tailor-made for the surface Down Under, and she seems to have regained the confidence that made her a consistent major threat. The Swiss star enjoyed some of his most memorable moments Down Under as well. Wawrinka outlasted Djokovic in a five-set quarterfinal thriller at the 2014 Australian Open, ending the Serbian's major semifinal streak at 14. He then took down Nadal a few rounds later to capture his maiden major crown.</p><h3>1st-time major challengers</h3><p>A new season brings renewed hope for those chasing that elusive Grand Slam trophy. Keys finally got over the hump last year at Melbourne Park, saving a match point against Swiatek in the semis before upsetting Sabalenka in the championship match. Who are the top candidates this time around?</p><p>Alcaraz and Sinner have taken the torch from the Big Three, winning nine of the past 10 Grand Slams. Felix Auger-Aliassime has multiple wins over both players and was competitive in a four-set semifinal loss to Sinner at the 2025 US Open. Ben Shelton's best Grand Slam results have come in Australia. Three of his four major defeats during the previous campaign came at the hands of Alcaraz and Sinner. Meanwhile, Taylor Fritz has made a handful of deep major runs over the past two years and nearly forced a fifth set against Alcaraz in last year's Wimbledon semifinal.</p><p>On the women's side, Sabalenka, Swiatek, and Gauff have similarly seized control. Amanda Anisimova is perhaps the biggest threat to the status quo, as she owns a winning record against the trio and has been the runner-up at the last two Grand Slams. Mirra Andreeva is already a fixture in the second week of majors. The teen sensation beat Swiatek and Sabalenka in successive rounds when she won the 2025 Indian Wells tournament. "All you got to do is look at us on the bench. Me and AR talk every single day. <p>Orlando Magic forward <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/45014" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/45014">Moritz Wagner</a> is available for Sunday's matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans, the team announced Saturday.</p><p>Wagner hasn't played since tearing his left ACL in December 2024 against the Miami Heat.</p><p>The Michigan product was emerging as a Sixth Man of the Year candidate prior to his injury, averaging 12.9 points on 56.2% shooting to go along with 4.9 boards and 1.4 assists per contest across 30 appearances in 2024-25.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>His 1.8% steal percentage ranked in the 90th percentile among big men, per <a href="https://cleaningtheglass.com/stats/player/4438#tab-defense_rebounding">Cleaning the Glass</a>.</p><p>Wagner should provide a boost to the Magic's 25th-ranked bench scoring unit.</p><p>The Los Angeles Lakers selected Wagner with the No. 25 overall pick in 2018. He also played for the Washington Wizards and Boston Celtics before signing with the Magic late in the 2020-21 campaign.</p>
