Knicks' Hart: The talk around Bridges' shot is 'stupid'

New York Knicks wing Josh Hart doesn't understand why Mikal Bridges' shooting mechanics are receiving so much scrutiny.

"Mikal don't care about anything else. We don't care about all the background noise on Mikal, his shot. We don't care about it," Hart told reporters following the Knicks' season-opening loss to the Boston Celtics, per Phillip Martinez of SNY.

"He puts the work in every day, he's going to be good. The talk around it is stupid. There's stupidity to it. At the end of the day, he's been almost a 40% career 3-point shooter. Talk around it is stupid, and we're not going to entertain it."

Bridges' jumper has been under the microscope since training camp opened earlier this month.

The Villanova product struggled throughout the preseason, making only 2-of-19 attempts from deep, including an 0-for-10 performance against the Washington Wizards.

Bridges' shooting form always had an unconventional hitch, but he recently admitted to tweaking it before his debut campaign with the Knicks.

"Ever since I got into the league, been trying to fix it back to when I was in college," Bridges told Stefan Bondy of the New York Post. "So it's been seven years of just every day."

Bridges was a 40% 3-point shooter over three seasons with the Wildcats and tallied the fourth-most triples in the Big East during his final collegiate campaign.

The Philadelphia native made 37.5% of his threes over his first six seasons in the Association. His 220 threes in 2023-24 was the NBA's 12th-best mark.

Bridges got off to a slow start in Tuesday's affair against the Celtics before finding his rhythm in the second half. He shot 7-of-8 from the field - including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc - over the final two quarters.
