Report: Raptors' Barnes out several weeks with ankle sprain
Toronto Raptors forward Scottie Barnes is expected to miss several weeks because of his sprained right ankle, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.
The Raptors confirmed the former Rookie of the Year will be re-evaluated in a week after he got hurt Monday against the New York Knicks.
It's Barnes' second significant injury in the last month. The 2024 All-Star missed nearly three weeks in November with a fractured orbital bone, and Toronto went 2-9 without him.
He sprained his ankle midway through Monday's third quarter when he landed awkwardly on Karl-Anthony Towns' foot after attempting to block the Knicks center from behind. Barnes immediately left the game and didn't return, and was then seen wearing a walking boot during practice Tuesday.
The 23-year-old is posting a career-best 20.6 points per game in his third season, second on the team to RJ Barrett. He's also averaging a team-high 7.4 assists, along with 8.4 rebounds and 1.3 steals.
The Raptors have dealt with multiple injuries in the first couple months of the season, forcing them to deploy 10 different starting lineups through 25 games.
Starting guard Immanuel Quickley has made just three appearances so far; he's missed 14 consecutive matchups with a partially torn UCL, an injury he sustained in just his second game back after missing eight straight with a pelvic contusion. Veteran center Kelly Olynyk made his season debut Saturday after missing the first 23 games with a back strain, and the team's first-round pick Ja'Kobe Walter has been limited to 11 contests after spraining - and later re-aggravating - the AC joint in his right shoulder.
