Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving is expected to miss at least one-to-two weeks due to a bulging disc in his back, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania and Tim MacMahon.

The Mavericks are already without Luka Doncic, who suffered a calf strain Christmas Day and still doesn't have a set return date. After Irving undergoes treatment over the next few days, there's reportedly optimism that the 32-year-old will have a target date for his return to action.

Irving had already been ruled out for Monday's contest against the Memphis Grizzlies with a lumbar sprain. Though he missed Friday's 134-122 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers due to illness, he'd been otherwise relatively healthy all season; he'd missed just four previous games in 2024-25, with all of those absences related to his surgically repaired right shoulder.

Now in his third campaign with the Mavs, the eight-time All-Star is averaging 24.3 points, 4.9 assists, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.2 steals. He's also flirting with a second 50/40/90 season with shooting splits of 49/44.1/89.9 through 30 starts.

Dallas has lost four straight and seven of its last 11 games. Over that span, the team has dropped from second to sixth in the Western Conference. Following Monday's road matchup with Memphis, the Mavericks return home for a four-game set during which they'll host the Los Angeles Lakers, Portland Trail Blazers, and two consecutive contests against the Denver Nuggets.
