Report: JJJ's season likely over due to knee issue discovered after trade

Utah Jazz forward Jaren Jackson Jr. will undergo surgery on his left knee to remove a localized PVNS growth, the team announced Thursday.

Although the Jazz said Jackson is expected to make a full recovery, he'll likely miss the remainder of the season, sources told NBA insider Chris Haynes.

Pigmented villonodular synovitis is a noncancerous tumor that develops in the synovial tissue, the soft connective tissue of joints, according to Boston Children's Hospital. PVNS most commonly affects the knee and hip.

The Memphis Grizzlies traded Jackson to the Jazz on Feb. 3, but Utah discovered the knee issue in a post-trade physical.

Jackson, 26, scored 23 points in 22 minutes during Wednesday's win over the Sacramento Kings, his third appearance with the Jazz. Utah is 13th in the Western Conference with an 18-37 record.

The two-time All-Star and former Defensive Player of the Year played seven-plus seasons for the Grizzlies, who drafted him fourth overall in 2018. Jackson has career averages of 18.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game.
