Utah's Rising out for season with leg injury
Utah quarterback Cam Rising is out for the season with a lower leg injury, head coach Kyle Whittingham said in a statement Monday, according to Josh Furlong of KSL.com.
"Upon further evaluation by our medical staff, Cameron Rising's injury has unfortunately been deemed season-ending," Whittingham said. "During his time at Utah, Cam has been both a great player and leader for our program, and he will obviously be missed. Any future developments concerning his collegiate eligibility will be addressed at a later date."
Rising was initially said to be out indefinitely before Monday night's announcement. He may be eligible to return for an eighth college football season.
Freshman Isaac Wilson will take over as the starting signal-caller.
Rising started Saturday's loss against Arizona State and completed 16 of 37 passes for 209 yards with zero touchdowns and three interceptions. He appeared to hurt his leg early in the contest but remained in the game. It was his first game back after missing the previous three contests due to a finger injury.
Rising originally committed to Texas in 2018 but transferred to Utah the following season. He's racked up 7,113 total yards with 65 touchdowns during his career with the Utes. He missed the 2023 season after suffering an injury in the 2022 Rose Bowl.
Wilson went 2-1 during Rising's absence to start the season, throwing for 726 yards with five touchdowns and five interceptions.
