Moore calls Waldron firing 'shocking' as Bears support Caleb amid struggles
Bears wide receiver DJ Moore admitted Wednesday that Chicago players expressed frustration with the offense after the team's latest loss, but they didn't expect offensive coordinator Shane Waldron to lose his job this week.
Moore called the Bears' decision to fire Waldron on Tuesday "shocking," according to Kevin Powell of WGN Radio 720.
Chicago dismissed Waldron in his first season with the team after not scoring a touchdown for the second straight game. The NFC North club suffered its third straight loss Sunday to the New England Patriots 19-3, falling to 4-5 this year with its offense ranking 24th in points and 30th in total yards.
Bears head coach Matt Eberflus also announced Tuesday that Thomas Brown will replace Waldron moving forward.
There have been rumors that Moore and other Bears players are unhappy with rookie Caleb Williams as Chicago's starting quarterback, but Moore said the team supports this year's No. 1 overall pick.
"You've got to have support for him," Moore said, according to CHGO Bears. "He's going out there, busting his butt, trying to learn everything. Defenses are throwing a lot at him."
The wideout added: "Me and Caleb were talking yesterday, he's in a good space, I'm in a good space. All of the connections (on offense) are going to get better."
Bears tight end Cole Kmet also disputed a report stating that multiple Chicago players wanted the club to bench Williams for Tyson Bagent.
"That didn't happen," Kmet said, according to Powell.
Williams has completed 60.5% of his passes for 1,785 yards and nine touchdowns against five interceptions in nine games this year. Moore - his most-targeted receiver - has recorded 398 yards and three TDs while catching a team-high 40 passes.
The Bears host the Green Bay Packers in Week 11.
