49ers' McCaffrey upset with 'Instagram doctors' discussing his injury

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey expressed frustration over people discussing his Achilles injury despite not being informed of the situation.

"One thing I learned about the whole process is you get a lot of Instagram doctors out there," McCaffrey said, according to Cam Inman The Mercury News.

He added: "I'm watching a Sunday night game and some doctor is talking about my injury on TV. I couldn't believe it. I'd never talked to him in my life, he'd never seen imaging, talked to me, diagnosed me. It's just kind of the world we live in now."

McCaffrey made his season debut Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after missing the first eight games of the year due to Achilles tendinitis. He was placed on injured reserve after San Francisco's season opener.

The 28-year-old played 88% of the offensive snaps in his first contest, racking up 107 total yards on 19 touches. McCaffrey said he was "sore but felt good."

"When you're dealing with an injury and come back, it's a common misconception you have fresh legs," McCaffrey added.

"For a long time there I was struggling walking to the bathroom. So you can't train for a long time. They're fresh in the sense they haven't been beat up, but you also have to get back into training. That's why it takes long sometimes."

San Francisco's offense ranked eighth in EPA per rush during McCaffrey's absence. Jordan Mason was the primary back for the team's eight games, averaging 5.1 yards per carry with seven touchdowns.

The 49ers will face off against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
